GTC 2011?

Lol! Glad I'm not the only one who thinks that about admissions. From what color to what color? Have you dyed it before (and are there roots)? What brand of hair dye?

Hehe, I've played around with hair dye A LOT. As well as have pried a lot of info out of hair stylists. :)

Well, I did it. I did not have roots showing, but I went from my natural medium ash brown with what's left of some color that looked like highlights and then some gray mixed in (which I call my new blond hair coming in) to solid medium/dark brown which I think looks like it has red undertones when I'm in sunlight. No gray and no highlights left. It is a little too dark for my liking, so now I need to make an appointment to have a couple highlights thrown in before any possible interview -- which means we will all probably get called this week! :) I think it was Garnier Fructis, and it was the first time I used a permanent rather than semi-permanent. I've used Garnier Fructis before. It said the color was light brown, but it always comes out darker.

Oooo, I hope that color means we'll get a call!

I've used the Garnier Fructis before and have liked it. I use Clairol (I think? It's in the silver box with the super posh models on the front) a lot now, but that's really harsh and has fried my hair more than a time or two. It should lighten up as you wash your hair, especially if it is a red tone. Red is the fastest fading hair dye (and I want to say they supposedly go gray the earliest?), so it shouldn't be too bad. The highlights will make it look more natural and less monotone...I don't care what the boxes say, all over color will not respond to your natural highlights! Lol. Oh, and the red won't completely fade out, it just won't be as brilliant. I've played around a lot with reds, and stylists have always told me that about reds. Has the quality of your hair changed at all? I think one of the big things about graying hair isn't just the color, but the quality of the shaft. Like it's thinner and almost seems weaker. Though that also progresses with age and the amount of gray. I've heard that graying hair can react differently to dyes, though I'm not there yet (you can tease me about my age...I'm 27, lol). I like the new blond thing though. I'm going to have to remember that.

And the box is never right. I've gotten chocolate browns that turned out black, light browns that were mediums, medium browns that faded to dark blond, the list goes on. The only ones that were dead on were the fire engine red I did way back in the day (and dyed my forehead as well, lol) and the blue black (which caused my skin to sparkle). As long as you don't try to go from red to blond on your own (orange! been there!) or from a dyed darker color to a "go lighter for naturally dark hair" dye (yay, damage and wasted money), you're for the most part fine.

Oh, and as an aside (just because I thought this was interesting). The last person who cut my hair said someone asked her once if she was upset about all of the different boxed hair dyes coming out and stealing business. She said not at all, because from all the mistakes people make with them, it's actually increased business, if anything!

LOL! Wonder how many nurses out there are aggravated that we've gone from talking about entrance exams to hair dyes? :) I do not have nearly as much experience or knowledge with all the dyes as you do. My hair has always been fine and thin, and it got much thinner in the front after child no. 1 was born. When I dye my hair, it appears thicker and fuller, and that's one reason I do it. I do have an appointment tomorrow to have a couple highlights put in, so now comes yet another test if I mess up my hair. I'm really tempting Murphy's Law and still no e-mail in my inbox. Spent all day playing (Spring Break for the kids), so it's time to get some homework done.

spoke to someone in the nursing department that says we should be hearing something soon ladies. i dont know what their idea of soon is but it is forever on our part. they'd like to start interviewing in the next 2 weeks. so i'm thinking maybe next week to hear something???? also anything on the high 80 end was a great score for the kaplan, so fret not!

Did the person you talked to say anything on the high 80 end was a great score or did you just gather that from what the person said? Just curious.

yes. no one scored in the high 90s so an 85 or above was on the great end. low 80s were good scores!

I just went to the GTC nursing info session on Friday, and we were told that the GPAs for the last class (not sure if they meant those accepted 2010 or those they're looking at for 2011 -- I didn't specify that in my notes) were 3.5 and above, and the Kaplan scores were 85 and above (passing is 75).

Not sure if that helps anybody!

She also said that they're hoping for 60 slots, but that depends on staffing.

Hi everyone. I am currently in our RN Program at GTC. We graduate in May of 2012. We are so excited for all of you. We keep asking when the interviews will start, etc... We don't know any more than you do, but I wanted you to know that we are thinking about you, praying for you, and we are crazy excited for you. It's crazy to think that we were in your shoes one year ago. Things happen so quickly and it is just the most awesome, amazing journey. I just wanted to say "Hello" and we wish you the very best of luck. When you receive your email for your interview, just be yourself... be open and honest... and just take in the experience. Our class is ready to be here to support you and encourage you as you join this wild ride called Nursing School. Congratulations on everything that you have done so far and good luck!!!

Oh.. and by the way... the hair color conversation. CRACKED ME UP!! Y'all are dealing with stress just like we do. We talk about the most random things when we start to "crack".

BTW, I did get the highlights, and now my hair overall is a lot lighter. And if we wait much longer for these interviews, I'll have roots showing before the interview takes place!

Also, I know people that did not score above 85 on this last Kaplan (including those with very good GPAs), so I think they're either giving out the info of what people scored on the HESI last year or above 85 is what they want them to score on the Kaplan. Again, that's just my opinion, though; I don't know what the average Kaplan score was.

Wait, what do you mean want them to score on the Kaplan? Want who to score? I didn't really follow well.

And it could be possible that the scores were high, regardless of a person's GPA. I would say there are a lot of people who can maintain good grades but aren't good at standardized testing. And the opposite as well. Testing, while a measure of what a person knows, is also a skill. And there were a ton of people who took that test.

But I don't know the actual averages either, so who knows. :)

the average was an 84 and it was for the kaplan taken recently, not the hesi. i too have a friend that boasts a nice gpa, but only made an 81 on the kaplan. i was so surprised to find out i scored higher than her. now she's worried to death.... well, who isn't?
