GTC 2011?

Is anyone applying for Gwinnett Tech's Fall 2011 RN program? I submitted my application back in October (I really wanted to have enough time in case anything happened). I'm still waiting on the initial letter about the meeting for the entrance exam. Does anyone know when we're supposed to get that letter? I know the application due date wasn't too long ago (Jan. 15th) and with the snow, things are probably backed up a bit, but for some reason I thought we should already have word by now.

Wow, I didn't think 90 was exceptional enough to warrant a rumor. All I know is I could have been much more prepared had the study guide been more accurate. I was probably even more worried about the supposed vocabulary section, but didn't study for it at all because the logic didn't make sense to me and I knew I wouldn't be able to memorize the entire dictionary in such short amount of time. I was actually in tears upset about this, and in the past, vocabulary and English hasn't bothered me at all. Math and science in the past have always been weak for me, but it's slowly took a complete 180 throughout the last several years. On the practice tests, I got in the 70 range, which made me pretty hopeless given that practice tests are usually easier than the actual thing (in my experience, at least...my dad said there have been cases that they are identical or even harder). Apparently in this case, it's not the same AT ALL.

I've been wondering if the ISBN number they should have given us was for the most recent Kaplan study guide book. I haven't seen the book, but when I called Borders looking for the ISBN number in the letter, they said it was an older edition and only had the new one. Not sure if it's at all different, but if that were the case, that would be rather frustrating. But it doesn't appear to be that big of a deal, as this appears to be reflected in everyone's scores anyway. And in the end, I still much prefer GTC over anywhere else.

I've been checking my email multiple times a day. This is the most I've checked that email address ever, because I really dislike Windows Live, lol. And I usually stay signed into Windows Live with my Xbox Live account name...because Windows Live is so finicky, I usually only check my Gwinnett Tech email once a week! Needless to say, I've been more on top of student/school activities than I ever have.

olivia and busylife4me... ya'll are both going to do great. stop your worrying. trust me. i've talked to a couple of people who have way lower gpa's and kaplan scores than yall who are definitely worried! a 90 is perfect especially with that gpa and an 86 is super with that 4.0 gpa. i thought maybe that book was outdated too seeing as tho the test was so different but the day before i went to barnes and noble to look over the newest edition and it is exactly the same with the exception of one or two pages. it was also a waste of money. all you needed to study to do well on the kaplan is an a&p and micro book. the math on there was a joke as well as the reading section. the science and the grammar were the only sections that actually made me think a little. since school just started back, i say we should hear something in the next week or two at the most. but yall should both rest easy... you're going to get an interview! i would be extremely shocked if you didn't! :o with that being said... good luck on your interviews!!!

I don't think the version of the Kaplan prep book mattered, but I know I had the one that matched the ISBN number. When I took the Athens Tech NLN test, I just studied from the Kaplan book, and I think I scored high without the NLN prep book. (Athens Tech says on their web site that the last few years they've been choosing applicants who score between a 92 and 96th percentile, but then at their meeting, they said you need a 97th percentile, so all I know is you have to score fairly high.) Anyway, as of when my friend took the GTC Kaplan on 3/18, she said a test proctor said only one person scored a 90 that she had seen, so it may have been that same test proctor, and you may be the person she was referring to. As far as the prep book not matching the test, I kind of expected that because that's the way I felt the ATC NLN test was, even though I did not have the NLN book. My friend had the NLN book, and I don't think it helped her that much. I could hear sighs coming from those around me at the NLN test, and I definitely felt mentally drained after that test. I think both of the tests are really applied knowledge/criticial thinking, and the only way to help with that is to review all the basic concepts, which is a lot, and to study and think about it a lot.

I am nervously waiting by the mailbox. Please who ever gets their letter first please post!

It's supposed to be by email that we learn about the interview. Make sure to be checking that a lot too! I think you (MelissaLPN) might have been in my A&P 2 class. I know there was a Melissa that was an LPN in it. I'll definitely post if I get a notification!

Yeah thats me!! Olivia? I am sorry im totally blanking. Yes I will check my email till the server crashes.

I actually go by Jane (Olivia is my first name). I'm really tall (6'1") and thin. I sat right in front of the professor in the front row a few seats down from you.

Yes I know who you are!!

Nothing builds friendships like those A & P classes! :) I feel like we've all been through boot camp together! Checking my e-mail daily and will let you-all know if I hear anything.

A friend of mine went by the office. They said that they may actually be interviewing 80 applicants instead of 60 as was planned, but not to quote her on that. So.... I guess that's what the hold up is about. I think it's going to be another week before we hear anything.

Oh god, don't say that. The 67% chance is so much more reassuring than the 50% chance. I also don't think it's fair for them to change it last minute like that. It's not what they told us, and they need to represent themselves with consistency.

But if it's the registrar's office, I would take what they say lightly. I've received a lot of incorrect information from them and the people working there never seem to know what they are doing. I think they also procure rumors instead of maintaining an unbiased stance on questions asked. That's just my opinion based on my experience, though. The registrar's just hasn't left the best impression on me.

I would take anything that any of the office personnel say up there with a grain of salt. I do know with the new building that they would like to add slots, but I thought the funding would have to come first. I did talk to someone a couple Saturdays ago, though, that also said they would like to offer 80 slots, but it would depend on if the building was completed in time, and although it is supposed to be completed, you never know if they'll get behind due to rain, project delays, etc. So it could be they want to interview 80 so that they can take their 40 and then add more when the building is complete, but that's just speculation on my part. I think that they have to have the building complete, funding in place, and enough clinical spots from area hospitals in order to take that many. I know what will make them hurry up -- I have this box of hair dye that's been sitting on my bathroom counter for weeks, but I've been afraid to dye my hair for fear it would turn out horrible and then I would get an e-mail saying the interview is in two days. I think I'll make the ultimate sacrifice for all of us and dye my hair today! :)
