Gre

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum. Would like to get some input from you all who have taken GRE. I am using barron's prep book. Is it good or do you all think I should get Kaplan book for GRE?

I am taking the exam in Dec 06 and wondering how it will be like. How many months of prep do I need?

I took the GRE in early September. Barron's is OK, but I found Kaplan's to be EXCELLENT (especially the CDROM included with the book). REA was OK, but I didn't like it as much.

My advice is to check your local library - that's where I got the Kaplan book for a couple months. If they don't have the books, buy them. It's a cheap investment to doing well on the GRE.

Take the diagnostic tests out of each book - that will tell you your weak areas (except written essays, which the software can't score). Focus on those. The Kaplan software also asked how much time you had till the GRE, and developed a list of CDROM based tests to work on your weakest areas. I prepped for about a month and a half, and did OK (verbal 640, quant 730, written essay 5.5).

You should also check out the online free GRE test resources (google "free gre test"). They helped me on some math areas I hadn't used in nearly 20 years.

Thank you. I will get the Kaplan book. I am taking the exam in december and I have been using Barrons so far. So, I am hoping about a month in Kaplan book should help me too!!

I bought Kaplan and Thompson-Peterson's (AKA: Arco). Definitely preferred Kaplan. Good luck!
