I am currently starting a RN-BSN program, but it does not require me to take a higher level chemistry.I just had to take basic chemistry for my ADN. The college is accredited (Winston-Salem State University in NC). I plan on applying to grad school spring 2013, but Im just worried that not having a higher chemistry will affect my chances. I called UAB (one of the schools I plan on applying to) and they said they just look at GPA and if the BSN program is accredited. I am preparing for a large number of applicants to apply for fall 2013 admission because of the DNP stipulation for 2015.To me there will probably be a lot of qualified applicants so they may have to look at individual courses. Im really considering taking biochemistry, but I don't want to overwhelm myself. I will be working per diem, taking BSN classes & still have to complete 2 prereqs. Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated!

I took one chemistry class for my BSN and, if I remember correctly, it was pretty basic chem. No organic chem, no biochem required. The only specific undergraduate course I am aware of MSN programs requiring is statistics.

I assume you are planning on continuing from your RN to a APRN/NP role? I just didn't see it mentioned (or I am blind).
Most NP MSNs (around here at least) require at least orgo. There aren't enhanced chem requirements for DNP (here at least). Taking at least one organic semester would be worth your while if you plan on either MSN or DNP.
That being said, not sure I would worry too much about the world changing in 2015.

*** I think you may be over thinking this. If the programs website lists chem as a requirement or recomendation then take whatever they require. If not don't worry about it. Concentrate on doing well in your BSN program.
BTW you do understand that there is _NO_ DNP requirement for 2015 or any other year? There will still be plenty of MSN NP programs around in 2015 and beyond. it may be the case that UAB may be going to DNP that year but plenty of other are not.
