As of right now, I currently have a 3.3 GPA. I've completed most of my pre-reqs already in a rush to get into nursing school. I've only been in college for a year. I'm currently taking Chemistry on Summer I and A&P II in summer II. I will be retaking Stats this coming fall since my overload of classes spring semester caused me to fail it. However, all of my grades are either A's or B's, no C's (except the D in Stats).
My mom is a registered nurse, she's been a DON for nearly 15 years in the US, but she got her license from our home country. Now she runs and owns her own Hospice with a business partner. She wants me to get everything done as soon as possible...
All I have left is Stats, History, Nutrition, A&P II and Chemistry. What are my chances of getting into a nursing school in Texas with a 3.3 GPA and a 3.25-3.5 in my sciences? Should I retake some things to get a higher GPA?

Nursing is very competitive. I live on the east coast, so it may be a bit different in Texas, but here we are told if you don't have at least a 3.5 GPA, you should not consider applying to nursing. You have a very good chance of bringing that 3.3 to a 3.5 or higher. Strive for As in those classes that you have left, most certainly, but do not overwork yourself. Though your mother may be pressuring you, overloading your schedule can be extremely detrimental. Some schools do not have a repeat to replace policy with grades. :) Keep up the As and B+s, and you should do well. I would only retake any courses you have a C in if you are coming to the end of your remaining pre-reqs and your GPA still is not satisfactory enough.
Thank you so much! This was very encouraging. I certainly will try my hardest to attain A's in the rest of my classes for sure! And wow, does the east coast sound intense! We have it the same way here...I've only heard of people who have 3.7 and higher doing being able to enter around here.
No problem! Don't forget that Bs are okay too though :) A 3.3 is a good GPA! Just shoot for As to boost your GPA. My boyfriend actually is currently in the Dallas area (born and raised), and I'm a little familiar with nursing there. It seems very competitive compared to the rest of the country. If you're passionate enough and let that passion be known, you can make it. I got into a very prestigious BSN program in my state with a 3.6 (3.5 overall), and my university was trying to convince me to retake classes I had A-s in to get into a their program

I'm in Texas & I just got into a private university with a 3.4. I have all A's & B's except for a C in A&P. I was going to take it again in the summer but applied & got in so...... Your doing great!! Keep up them A's.

For a non private university in Texas, at least the DFW area, the GPA is above 3.5. I was looking around at local schools. My GPA will be a 3.7 if I receive all A's form here on out. For instance, TWU is looking at 3.8 - 4.0, UTA is about 3.7 and considerations are important around here as well and first attempt A's in the sciences and the pre-entrance exam score. It is quite competitive!!!
Yay! Nursing is really competitieve here Texas, so happy for you! But, I hope you don't mind me asking, but which university did you get into?
I hope to end up around the same range gpa as well! Good Luck!

I had a letter for UTHSCSA but its pretty far I have 3 kids, who need me around if something happens & I don't do traffic very well. WBU offers the program down the street practically lol. So I did 9 extra classes but worth not having to drive that far plus parking. It is competitive out here though. I also applied to the community college just in case I didn't get in for the BSN. Their letters go out on Friday. So someone lucky will get called from the alternate list if I get in & give up my seat. Where ate u applying to?!

Wow, if I had to achieve that kind of GPA to get into the RN program I would be in trouble! I had a 4.0 last semester but my cumulative was barely 3.0 and I got in. But it took three tries! That's community college on the East Coast, maybe not as strict over here.
