Got into the program BUT

Published

Hi guys,

I thought I would see if any of you could offer me some advice. I applied for nursing school in April. I didn't have all my prereqs done and thought I would be able to attend class in the summer. Around May, I recieved a letter from the school that I applied to about any classes being taken in the Spring would need to be sent to the school so they could count them toward the application. If you didn't submit them and you needed those classes as part of the qualifications, then your app would not be considered. Since I was unable to attend class Spring or Summer, I didn't send anything in, assuming my app would be thrown out. Imagine my surprise when Friday I got an acceptance letter into the program.

So, my dilemma is this. Do I call them and tell them I have not been able to take my BIO class (thats the only thing missing), do I just do nothing and risk getting tossed out when they realize their mistake at the beginning of the program, do I try and CLEP it? It says you must be eligible for BIO 201, cleping it would be ok I think? PLEASE OFFER ME SOME ADVICE!!! I am just unsure how to proceed and I really want to start school in the fall! Thanks!

NO! Do not just wait for them to find out. That will immediately imply you lack character, integrity and honesty - most programs will kick you out just for not conforming to those standards. Waiting until they find out - and they will - says you are dishonest and places you at risk for not even being allowed to reapply.

What is CLEP? Credit by examination? If that's what it is, do that ASAP - but unless you have a strong, and I mean STRONG, background in human sciences, the chances of you "winging it" are slim to none (unless you are just a genius and have a skill for process of elimination).

If you are unable to attain credit by examination, you will need to reapply next year. If you were caught in my program without the prereqs, not only would you for sure be knocked out of the program, but you would not be allowed to apply for ANY Allied Health & Nursing program at my institution. You would also risk being suspended from my college itself.

Try to CLEP the class immediately. Maybe you can get the test done within two weeks, then call them to see if they will take it. It is worth a try. I certainly wouldn't let the opportunity to start pass by without a herculean effort to proceed. Good luck.

Thanks guys. I am going to try to CLEP it. I still don't understand how I was able to get in, but I am going to call and let them know. In my program, it says you must be eligible for BIO 201 - CLEPing it is acceptable as is taking the BIO placement exam. I am just going to have to study my booty off to try and pass it! If I can't pass it, I will take the year to finish the rest of the prereq's for my BSN and apply for Spring admission there.

Somebody made a simple mistake or the decision was made with the assumption that you were taking the class. I would take the test before I would call them because technically until you pass the test you are not meeting the requirement and they can reverse their decision. Can you take the Bio placement exam next week? That is the other option. But then, you say eligible, you don't say anything about completion. Maybe you don't need to have the course completed. Oh well, good luck anyway.

I drove over to the school today to talk to the director. I am ok! I spent all weekend stressing out over that, but at this particular school, I do not have to take BIO 103! :yelclap: I am good to go! Whoo Hoo!
