Hey guys! :)
I finally got an interview for a PRN PCT position in a really nice hospital....
I am so excited! I've applied to a million places here in Miami and nada...
I got my interview by going to a job fair at my school. I spoke with the recruiter and the first thing she asked me was did I speak Spanish, lol. So I guess that was a plus!!!
She called me yesterday because they had a position open and asked me if I was still interested in working for them. I said yes and she told me she would send me the link to the application. I filled it at 1AM after clinical and this morning she contacted me that I had the interview for Tuesday!
:) Wish me luck guys! If you have any tips, I'd love to hear them...

Make sure you have current American Heart Association BLS CPR certification, most hospitals won't take you without that (I learned it the hard way). Research the facility, and research the floor you are being interviewed for. At my last interview, I didn't know a thing about the hospital or the floor and when asked why I wanted to work there, I didn't have a very good answer. Other than that, congrats on getting an interview, I know how difficult it is!
Hey thanks for the tip. Didn't think of that one. I went to the about us of the hospital and I'm gunna read about their mission statement and stuff.

That's a good idea. I have an interview coming up for an externship program. I'll work PRN as a tech for them until I finish school, they'll pay for my next year of nursing school, then I work for them for at least a year on Medical Surgical. So hopefully I can get my school paid off, and my first year of Med Surg done, then I can look into a good NICU or ER somewhere (unless I love this hospital). I hope I get this she's gonna schedule me an interview on Monday. **fingers crossed**
Can I ask what hospital that is? I wish I had a chance to an externship like that!!
It's at Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville Texas. It is actually a very good opportunity, so hoping I get it! I also applied to an externship within Dallas Children's Medical but they only want BSN's and I'm only going for my ADN right now. So one rejected me and the other accepted me for an interview. Hopefully things will go my way! How'd your interview go????
Ahhh I love Texas, it seems there are lots of opportunities like that there? I really hope you get it because those are so great on a resume and they prepare you so well. I haven't seen many programs like that here. I think Tampa General Hospital has one but that is like 3-5 hours away from where I live.
OH! I got the job :) LOL but I am negotiating with them bc I would really like them to be flexible with me during my summer semester, since its the craziest one.
I get summer "off " haha. Yeah right! I have 3 papers to write, 800 NCLEX questions to do, case studies, quizzes, and 5 inch thick binders to fill out with community service resources. Haha. So while I'm off, they pile things so high up on me that I'm technically not off! I just don't have to deal with my instructors and everything is on me!
There do seem to be quite a few externship opportunities here and it does help that I'm 30 mins away from Dallas, and Greenville, and other cities, with bigger hospitals.
I'm glad you got your job. That's awesome. Hopefully they will work with you more. Just because its summer doesn't mean you have absolutely nothing to do but work!
Wow CONGRATS! Tell me how you got the job. What questions did they ask? Did you have previous experience?
Thanks!!
Well basically like I mentioned above, there was some little job fair and there were recruiters from this hospital there. So I came up to them, introduced myself, told them I was a nursing student currently working in the library of said school, and I was interested in any positions as PCT or intern positions. They gave me a little slip I filled out with my name and how to contact me and what I was interested in.
This was like in the beginning of February I think, but I am not sure.
So the recruiter calls me last week and tells me if I was still interested. I told her yeah, and she told me to fill out an application so she could forward it to the director of the floor (tele). So I got the interview and got hired on the spot, a long with another student of my same school.
I had no real experience as a CNA, but I just finished my Med-surg clinical and am half way through nursing school. The lady didn't even know me, I guess she just remembered how I introduced myself(I'm very friendly and tried to show it).
ALSO!!! She asked me if I spoke Spanish as I live in Miami and they need Spanish-speakers... I got asked 3 times and was asked to speak to them in Spanish. So that helped a lot I think. The other girl that got hired is also Spanish-speaking.
They asked me questions about vitals, how to safely move a pt up in bed, what were my weaknesses(I get too attached to my patients), describe a time i had a difficulty with a patient, why I was interested in their hospital, why was I interested in becoming a PCT(b/c I'm in nursing school and wanna learn!!!)
