Going to start working as MA, yet wants to keep CNA liscense for Nursing School eventually

Published

Hello

I live in the state Utah. I have recently obtained my MA(Medical Assistant) license, but I want to keep my CNA license since it is require eventually for nursing school here. I was wondering if my new employer would be able renew my CNA license for me(while working as MA) or is that not allowed? Right now I am working as a CNA.

Why can't you renew your own CNA certification? Nursing assistants are only licensed in New Hampshire and are called LNA

It really depends on your state certifying body. Some states require that you work as a CNA for a certain number of hours to maintain the license. Ask your state certifying body (usually the board of nursing) to see what the requirements for renewing your CNA certification are.

In my neck of the woods CNA = MA in MD offices, but an MA without a CNA certification cannot work as a CNA...
