Going from PT to FT at the VA?

I recently got hired at the VA for a part time position, wondering how hard it is to go from part time to full time and also how long I'd have to wait.

    You would likely have to find an opening for a FT position first. Positions are usually budgeted and approved before ever being posted. It takes a long time to fill a position even when someone leaves a position, at least at my VA.

    Hi Bojo,

    I also applied for a FT position but was hired PT. I was pretty disappointed but the manager who interviewed me indicated I should be able to pick up extra shifts if I choose. Plus the flexibility is enticing! I am just happy to get my foot in the door so I am willing to make it work. How do you feel about it?
