Going back to get BSN/MSN

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hi. I am just finishing up my prerequisites in order to go back for a BSN/MSN. (I originally graduated college in 1992). I am 38, am married and have 2 wonderful children.

I have been searching high and low over the years for any type of loan forgiveness programs or tuition reimbursement programs...I had heard that they were 'everywhere' and that everyone was offering opportunities like these, due to the nursing shortage.

Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions as to hospitals, etc... that may be offering such programs? Any information on the topic would be most appreciated.

Many thanks :)

Depending on where you live: OSF Saint Francis Med Center in Peoria offers a bridge from ADN to BSN (3 semesters) and then several MSN options. If you work for them, tuition is free.

Thanks very much for the information :)

Currently, I live in Chicago and I do not see my family moving in the near future; if anything, we may move to the suburbs when the real estate market turns around.

The 2 schools I am looking at are Rush & Loyola.

I know someone who works fro an Advocate hospital and they have a tuition reimbursement program there.

You may also wish to look into DePaul.

I work at University of Chicago Med Center...and they pay 100% of tuition after you have been working there for so many months...(can't remember). You will get taxed (on your paycheck) after you exceed approx $5000. I believe at Rush Uni they also have comparable tuition reimbursement programs available, however, I am unsure as to what they are. I am at Rush Uni right now for my Masters degree & am enjoying it so far.

Good luck!
