go to work with laryngitis???

Published

Do you go to work with laryngitis??? I mean not just hoorifice but no voice at all. squeaks if anything. It is so frustrating. RX of Z-pack and cough syrup today and a diagnosis of URI with laryngitis. Work tomorrow with still no voice??? Not a sound. They say whispering makes it worse. What to doooooooooo....

I wouldn't. Any time I'm even starting to cough or lose my voice, I call in. Talking for twelve hours makes either much worse and adds to my recovery time. I drink vodka until the coughing stops and I can sleep. I'm not saying that's what anyone else should do, to be clear!

Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you!! I told them I wouldn't be there tomorrow. I know that is what I need to do but I always feel guilty when I call in, like they think I am faking it or something. I am in the orientation phase of the float pool and PRN so at least they won't be short staffed which makes me feel not so bad. Not being able to talk is more frustrating than I would have ever thought. Thank you for your reply!!

I lost my voice during a shift working LTC. Nothing like trying to talk with a LOL who is HOH with no voice. Glad to hear you decided to stay home.

Kind of hard to work a shift if you can't communicate. I'm a trained singer, and back in the day my voice teachers' Rx for laryngitis was no speaking. Feel better soon!
