Getting started for the CPNE

Please correct me if I'm wrong but the CPNE fee has to be paid in full when you send in your application? After they recieve your application, it will take any where from 2 to 6 month for an actual date depending on your preference for the testing site. Right?

I just completed all of my NC exams and as of yet Excelsior has not updated my profile, so while I was waiting for that, I thought I would post. ( I have a little extra time on my hands now that I don't have to study for any more theory exams :yeah:) I did download the Summary of Changes for the CPNE the 16th edition, and I also noticed that they have 3 different nursing diagnosis books listed throughout the CPNE resources page, which one is it exactly, "The Mosby Handbook of Nursing Diagnosis" the "Ackley and Ladegig" I might have spelled that one wrong.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanx,

Smitty

From what I was told the only nursng dx book you can take with you to clinicals is Mosby's 2nd edition. (that is what a advisor told me last wk). There is a cpne payment plan that lets you pay 600 down and 270mo *5months, if you get a date before the 6month payment plan then you have to pay the balance in full. (if I am wrong someone correct me). That is what I did. I have the money but I was afraid something would come up and all my reserve money would be gone. While you are waiting on them to update your status; have you already got all the paper work and forms for the application? It took my background check 2wks to come back vs the 48hrs they told me. Well good luck, where are you applying to take clinicals? You should also be able to download the whole cpne study guide, edition 16 and start studying. They told me (a few wks ago) that the wait time for cpne is decreased to 4months but i have heard different things, fom students getting a date in 3wks of applying to 3months. So who knows. Well good luck!!

I'm in the same boat - just finished the last 4 NC exams (in 30 days, too!) and am waiting for my status to be updated. I started my background check. I'll probably be doing the payment plan.

NPAC has a 4-8 month waiting list. I think it's towards the 4-month side if you pick all training centers within NPAC. MPAC has a 6-8 month waiting list. I didn't call SPAC. I'm going with NPAC and hope to land on the 4 month side. Also going to do the CPNE workshop with EC and there's one done in CA by a former graduate I think I'll attend in November.

thank you so much for your replies! can you choose any location within the MPAC, or do they assign you a location depending on which area you request? for instance, i would like to go to Ohio, do i just select the MPAC and Ohio, or do they place me anywhere within the the MPAC?

I selected only Mansfield as my site under MPAC. If you select only one, that's where you'll go! Just be aware that you may be in for a longer wait if you limit your choices, but you can always get on the cancellation list if you want to go sooner. I think when I talked to MPAC, you had to want to go within 5 weeks of application to be on the cancellation list, but my memory of that is a bit hazy and that should be verified. :)
