Getting a home...

Published

Hello All,

I am a former Corpsman that served with the Navy and USMC and recent LVN grad now soon 2 be RN student. I am looking ahead to buying a home for my family and seeking advice on RN unions, loans, etc etc that may help. We live in Ca and there are not LVN unions here. I may use the VA but any advice will help.

As to my first post I have been on this site as a lurker for more than a year, THANK YOU ALL. You helped me thru my school, NCLEX, waiting, job hunting etc etc. This is the best thing on the net!!!!

RN unions....California Nurses' Association is one of the strongest in the nation.

CHECK and see if you qualify through USDA Rural Development/ Don't let the name fool you- they have tons of loan categories and awesome rates.

One goes by your income so no matter what rate you locked in for an interest rate (say 5.875) you will never pay more than that but may pay as little as 1%!! This helped me buy a house now while still in school- I am paying less than all my friends pay in rent! Plus if I ever decide to do humanitarian work for peanuts I will be able to without worrying about losing my home.

There are aslo first time homebuyer loans and programs. I would highly recommend taking a homeownership series of classes as they will really be able teach you the steps and the good and bad.

Usually housing authorities offer these as well as private housing foundations. Sorry I dont know what's out your way as I am on the east coast.

Best wishes to you!

glad that you are out in open..you know a lot of what goes on here but yes we find it to be a good site with give and take of ideas and solutions

check on hud houses i don't know if they have them in california as i guess that real estate is at a premium...go to hud.gov

The VA has some great mortgage programs with little to no down payment required.
