Getting accepted into a full class-need help with email to professor

Hi all,

Here is my first official post. I've been lurking for a while.

I have two pre-reqs left and they are both full. I've been checking for weeks to see if they might open up but I haven't had any luck.

I'm going to try to email the professors to see if they might have pity on me and let me in. Any advice or sample email? Would I do better in person? Does anyone have any experience getting into a class that has already reached capacity?

By the way, I'm a 26 year old mother of three and going to nursing school will be a dream come true for me. Thanks in advance for any help

My advise would to be to ask the proff if you can attend class for a couple of weeks even though you're not on the list. My experience has been that people drop a lot in the beginning. If you can stick it out and go to class for a few weeks then you will have a good shot of getting in. Most people on the wait list give up after the first or second day. Be prepared to stand in the back though...technically, they have to give seats to registered students. Good luck!

The schools I've attended always dealt with adding new students on the first day of class. Our instructors would say what their priority was for taking any additional people and take it from there. Your situation would be right up there with a senior needing the class for graduation. That being said, if it were me, I would go ahead and email the instructor giving him your name and stating your case. It shouldn't hurt that s/he knows about you ahead of time. You might get the nod ahead of time. Otherwise, show up at the first class meeting and cross your fingers. Good luck.

I had the same problem getting into my A&PII class... they gave priority registration to those already in the program. I spoke with the prof. and we agreed that I could attend class "unofficially" because th school simply would not allow more students than lab seats but if somebody dropped he would sign me in. After what felt like wasting 5 Thrsday nights, I was lucky and somebody dropped! I would def. go in person though because I have found that a lot of prof's. don't check or respond to e-mail quickly if at all and I am too impatient! Good luck!

Does your school automatically drop students by a certain date if they haven't paid their fees? My school did this last night at midnight and I was online at that time and had no trouble getting in to the previously full class that I wanted. I checked again today and there were still 18 spots available. I think with the economy these days a lot of people had to drop because of money issues. Good luck on getting in!
