Getting A Job!!!

This is directed mostly at EC grads but anyone is free to respond. I was just approved for graduation by EC, will graduate officially on 1-21-05. Anyways, I want to start applying for jobs. Did anyone apply before the officially graduated? Or did you wait until you were done with everything including NCLEX and then apply? Any thoughts on this subject would be appreciated.

Congrats on your upcoming graduation!

I don't know anything about EC, but most folks I know who've finished nursing school have begun applying for GN jobs before they actually graduated/passed boards. :)

Medic- Congrats!

I already had a job, but most hospitals will hire GNs with your status pending passing the NCLEX. You should have a fairly lengthy orientation anyway, so it might be worth a try to go ahead and start looking. You might even be able to get them to pay for your testing fee.

You'll need a permit to practice as a GN. I believe the permit is good for 3 months?

Congrats on your graduation!! I offiicially graduated on November 19 from Excelsior, but I interviewed for my position as a GN in the Emergency Dept in early November, I think. I know it was before my official grad date. They hired me within a couple of days of the interview.....I didn't take boards until December 1....and I started orientation two days ago....it felt so good getting my new badge with Lorri, RN on it:)

Good Luck,

Lorri, RN
