get GE's out of the way or no?

Published

i need advice from nursing students or nurses. should i:

spread classes out and take 2 years to do pre-reqs and get GE's out of the way

OR

finish pre-reqs in one year and do GE's in the summer/during nursing school?

basically, is it better if i dont have to worry about GE's during nursing school or are GE's really the de-stressor classes?

if you were me, would you rather wait 5 years to graduate OR just 4 years PLUS summer classes?

thanks a bunch!!

Personally, I would get the GEs out of the way and concentrate on the NS classes. I'm starting NS on Monday, got all my GEs out of the way but I am taking a Water aerobics class (for exercise and de-stress!!!)

That way, I can totally focus on NS. Plus, your scenario - "wait 5 years to graduate OR just 4 years PLUS summer classes" isn't THAT different. 5 compared to 4 "plus"

Of course, you are the only one that can decide which would work better for your situation - Good Luck!

i speak from the perspective of someone who has been through both aa and bsn nursing programs: get all your ge classes and pre-reqs for nursing out of the way before beginning any nursing classes. it's too difficult and stressful to be taking them along with nursing school. some nursing schools won't let you take nursing classes if your ge courses aren't completed. you will need that time to focus on studying the nursing.

I would definitley get all of the GE out of the way. I can't imagine taking a nursing course and microbiology at the same time.

I too agree that I would get everything out of the way before NS. However, if you have a pell grant, you want to make sure that you stay full-time otherwise you will not receive the entire funds. My NS is only 9 credits, so I've had to pick up 1 more class each semester to keep all my aid. So, keep that in mind before you short yourself. You may want to keep some "easy A" classes for later if this is your situation as well. Something to check into.

I agree with everyone else get your ge's out of the way. My school you have to have them complete before you can apply.
