General Ed Classes?

Published

Just curious.... I see people talking about General Ed classes. I've never done any college and I am trying to go for my pre-reqs to ADN in the Fall of this year. Do I have to complete General Ed classes as well?

If your going for your ADN you shouldn't have to, but I don't know what college your planning on attending and I only know how it's done at my college.

Do you have to take an assessment test?

It's best to talk to the advising office of the school you will attend, since requirements vary pretty widely from one school to another.

Good luck!

I can only comment on my experience, but I've found that general ed classes are usually part of the requirements for the ADN, to be completed prior to starting nursing courses or at the same time. I don't know of any schools that do not require at least english composition and some sort of math. Most of the schools I looked into (including the school where I was accepted) required a combination of sociology, psych, history, government, and humanities, sometimes all of the above. A few even required speech. And then, there may be the matter of prerequisites required prior to taking ADN science classes (for example, college algebra needed prior to chemistry).

Definitely check with the college you are planning to attend for their requirements, every school seems to be a little different from each other. Good luck!

Umm, you have to take a placement test for Math and English. I'm going to go to College of the Redwoods in Eureka, CA. I downloaded their information for their Nursing Program and it only has listed: "English 150, Math 106, Biology 2, 6, 7, and Chemistry 2" as pre-requisites.

I'm new to the whole college thing. :uhoh3:

Yeah, you're best bet is to talk to an advisor. Like I mentioned in my last post, some of those sciences may have pre-requisites or co-requisites. The advisor will sit down and spell out all of the required classes for you and when they need to be taken so that you don't miss anything!
