Hello. I am only half way through fundamentals in my first semester. I am required to find a case study in which I'm supposed to identify the social and economic impacts as well as the legal aspect during secondary health care. Wait, what? I am so confused, I don't know where to start. My classmates suggested to find an any article and go from there but I have no clue of how to do this. By no means I'm asking for an easy way out. I just need some guiding. I don't feel like I'm yet prepared to do this kind of research with just this basic info. Thanks in advance.

Here are my thoughts. Social economic status affects one's health care by not having insurance and not being able to afford insurance. This population doesn't seek medical attention nor have regular medical care. They may have poor diets, they can't afford health clubs and exercise equipment to maintain health or improve health. So by the time they end up in the emergency room this HTN/diabetes has caused co-morbidities.
Secondary care is...Secondary care is the health care services provided by medical specialists and other health professionals who generally do not have first contact with patients, for example, cardiologists, urologists and dermatologists. This population cannot afford regular health care let alone the increased expense of a specialist. For example...they will not seek care from a dermatologist to check for skin cancer so by the time they require medical attention they are far progressed.
I have an example. I have an auto-immune disorder that is rare. I recently went to a specialist (that my insurance covered and I waited for 8 months to see) when on the second visit he informed me that in order to remain a patient I had to pay a non billable 5 figure bi-yearly fee to remain his patient (After all...he is a busy man after all and on the faculty of Harvard) He called it concierge medicine. I am disabled and I cannot afford his "retainer fee"...I will not be getting the specialist care I require.
Esme This is great! Now I can work with this and expand! Awesome! Thanks so much!
