FSW spring 2017

Anybody applying for the nursing program at FSW for the spring in 2017? I plan to take my TEAS sometime August or September, does anyone know what the passing score is? And have you finished all your prerequisites and general ed? The only prereqs I have left to do is A&P2, nutrition, and micro. But still have all the general eds left to do. But you don't have to have all the general eds finished before applying right? Sorry, I'm new at this.

From a friend/student that started last semester, you can get and shoes as long as they are all white leather. Meaning if there is a small logo that has a little color you can't use them.

You can buy used online. My friend started in the fall semester and she was able to get all of her books online used and saved about $250

Good to know. Wasn't expecting my schedule to change so this is helpful. What is practicum, exactly? Are practicum and sim lab different? Thanks!

Think of practicum as a place to practice skills that you will apply in the hospital.

They are definitely different in many aspects. Simulation day is a long day while practicum is either morning or afternoon.

Practicum is more concerned with skills such as making an occupied/unoccupied bed, vital signs, etc. I also can't speak of simulation day because the first rule of simulation day is that you do not talk about simulation day and the second rule of simulation day is that you do not talk about simulation day. I think you see where this is going and you will see what I mean when you get there.

I got my scrubs a couple days ago. So if anyone has not got the call yet, you should get one soon. I can't believe we are only about two weeks away from starting. I'm excited! but also not ready to give up all this free time I have had lately lol. If you're starting at Collier Campus (or anyone on this thread) you can add me as a friend on Facebook :)

Also!...Does anyone know what kind of backpack would be good for the program?

Are you looking to pack all your books, medical supplies, etc? Then you should get a suitcase with wheels... or something equivalent. Military rucksacks are great too if you don't mind bearing the weight on your shoulders.

Chances are you won't really need to pack everything all the time unless that's what you want to do. I'd probably go with a SwissGear backpack. Plenty of room for books, supplies and your laptop if you wish to pack one for class.

While we're on the subject of supplies. Two items I would recommend getting for clinicals:

1. A stethoscope holder. Some are cheap but you get what you pay for so consider yourself warned.

2. A medical folding clipboard. Why? Because during our clinical experience we had no place to place our folders or clipboards.

I have missed so much in here! Sorry I haven't been here in a while! Thank you Solus for all the information. I can't believe that we're about to start in about 2 weeks! I remember when we all were nervous about the TEAS and our e-mails!!! Ahhh I'm so excited and nervous for all of us! I hope you all enjoy the holidays and the rest of these 2 weeks before classes begin.

Hi @weiny4089 Im also doing my prereqs at the moment. Last term i took three classes but I'm planning on only taking 2 this coming term so I can focus more on class work and keep a good GPA. I'm planning on finishing all prereqs before I apply.

Do you know when the 1st day of class is? the 5th???

I know we are going to school the first 3 fridays, I wonder if for the first 3 weeks are we doing the regular schedule?
