Frontier & WGU

Hello all!

I'm just finishing up my first semester of nursing school (ADN) with a long-term goal of becoming a midwife.

I'm starting to look into different RN-BSN programs to complete when I graduate (so I can work on more general ed classes for my BSN) and am currently contemplating WGU for this.

My question is WGU is pass/fail, and passing is basically a 3.0. Would that be an issue when applying to Frontier's midwifery program? Would my GPA from my ADN play into account or would they only look at my BSN? How competitive is entrance into the program?

I'm not really interesting in completing their bridge program, because I would like to have an actual BSN awarded in case life gets in the way.

    I would recommend contacting Frontier. I have been in contact with them via email and they have been very nice and quick to answer my questions. Just give them a call or send an email and simply ask if they accept a BSN degree from WGU. Honestly, I don't see why they would not. Good luck to you.

    I considered Frontier and corresponded with them when I was thinking about getting a degree from WGU, because I was worried about the GPA. They definitely accept degrees from WGU, and 3.0 is the minimum for entry in pretty much any grad program. I am not sure how competitive Frontier is, but I would say WGU is a great choice, as long as you have an impressive resume/application to back up the less-than-awesome GPA. I also included a blurb about WGUs pass/fail system with my grad school application (it's not an uncommon system actually, many prestigious and competitive degree programs are pass/fail. I just wish they didn't assign a darn GPA to it). And I am fairly certain my undergrad GPA was a factor in their decision to enroll me, so if your current GPA is good then I think that will work in your favor.
