Forwarded to hiring manager...

Last Monday I applied for a position at a local hospital that "preferred" 1 year of experience but since it wasn't a requirement I applied. It is in my dept of choice and thought it was a worth a shot. I just graduated and received my license in June so this job hunting is all new to me ;) Late Friday afternoon I received an email from HR saying "we are pleased to inform you your application was forwarded to the hiring manager for review. If you are selected for an interview, they will contact you within 2-3 weeks".

Is this a typical part of the process? I definitely don't want to get my hopes up over something so small but it made me a little excited that I at least wasn't denied immediately. Do all applicants generally get forwarded? Thanks for any input :)

    Congrats! I would be happy about that sort of email too! I don't think all resumes/applications are forwarded to hiring managers. I think it's only the one's that the recruiters or HR select to send to them. Good luck and I hope you get a call for an interview!

    Thanks BotoxBaby! I re-read the email and it was sent from an actual recruiter in HR, it had her name and direct number on the email. So, it's obviously not just a computer generated email picking random applicants. I wish I knew how many they forward; 10, 50, 100 applicants? I will obviously think this to death until I hear something. I live in an area where it is SO hard for new grads to find jobs (Nor Cal/Bay Area) and I was pleasantly surprised to be forwarded :)

    I would be excited! Unless the HR 'gods' find you qualified for a position, your resume doesn't make it into the hands of hiring/nurse managers. Good luck and fingers are crossed for you!!!

    I received similar messages a time or two while I was applying for jobs to only get a cookie-cutter no thank you response weeks (sometimes months) later. The good news is SOMEONE had to get a good response so hopefully in this case it will be you. I would recommend continuing your job hunting. You'll get that first job just keep putting yourself out there, attend job fairs, etc...

    I've gotten a few of those, and maybe a third ended with an actual interview. Which may not sound like much, but far better than the odds you start with in the general applicant pool!

    When I went in for the interviews, I was told each time I was one of the hundreds of applicants forwarded, and then the hiring manager cuts it down from there. So I wouldn't sit by the phone waiting, but it's progress!

    Thanks for the responses! I'm definitely still applying; I have so many different applications out. It was just nice to see *some* acknowledgment and not immediately denied ;)

    "Forwarded to..." is encouraging because it means you're not out of the running yet. It may or may not pan out into an interview: I've had loads of applications be forwarded, just to have the status end up changing to "Sorry, but..." without anything else. Hang in there!

    Most online HR/employment systems generate automatic emails whenever specific actions are taken. This is probably one of those instances. But robo-feedback is better than no feedback at all, right? Keep on truckin' - You can't win if you don't play (the application game). Best of luck to you!
