Forensic Nursing Types / Degrees?

Specialties Forensic

Published

I'm still in nursing school and I've become very interested in the idea of forensic nursing. I was torn between the criminal justice and medical fields, but now I realize that I may be able to have the best of both worlds. I just wanted to see if there is anyone out there who can give me a little insight, advice, input, anything would be helpful.

Also, I couldn't find a school that carried the program so I may have to take online classes. Has anyone out there earned a degree online or at a university in forensic nursing? And if anyone can explain the different types of forensic nursing then that would be great.

Thanks! :)

I've been a forensic nurse since 2005. It's an amazing field and there are many online programs for certificates, and MSNs. DO>IT.

You will not regret it.

Specializes in ICU.

I have been really interested in forensic nursing as well. I just got into nursing school (should begin this summer or fall depending on which program I pick), but for the last three years I have been working with victims of DV and sexual assault. I have met a few SANEs and talked with them for a bit when I was a hospital advocate.

Do you only do sexual assault stuff cheloz, or something else? The few I have talked to do not do that work full time, it's an on-call situation and they have a full time position elsewhere. Is this your experience?

Thanks for any info you can give :)

Does anyone now about the U Can Riverside certificate program? is that good to become SANE certified?
