For those who live in Miami

Published

HI! I'm starting college next semester at MDC. I still need to take the pre-requisistes... I'm going for the ADN. I know it might be a little soon to worrie about this, but I've heard that Miami Dade College has a waiting list, so my question is what other nursing schools can I apply for? Thanks for your answers. ;)

I live in Miami. I actually just finished my third semester at Broward College. I took most of my pre-reqs at Miami-Dade College, but decided to go with Broward, because the wait was shorter.

Have you tried asking this question over on the Florida forum? You can also do a search and start reading up on some of the other schools in the area. I had no intention of driving 45 min one way to school like I do now. But the information on that board helped me make my decision, and I'm glad I did.

Now I only have two more semesters to go. Had I waited for Miami-Dade, I might not be this far along now. I'm not putting it down, but it's nice to know all your options. :)

I'm new here..so I didn't know there was a FL forum..Thanks for the Tip. :lol2:

Actually, I wouldn't mind going to BCC...I just want to finish this asap, but still have a long way ahead. Anyway, I'm trying to figure things out since now 'cause everyday I learn that I need something else to do before I can get into the program. So, thanks for your help... :D

No problem! Here's the link:

Broward does have a pretty scary rep. When I read all the posts about them, I'm not going to lie, I was terrified. LOL But once you get into the swing of things, it's not so bad.

Thanks for the link...:D

I have a HUGE DOUBT...

I was just in the BCC web page and it says that the Prerequisite Courses are:

* ENC1101 (English Composition I) (3 credit hours)

* CHM 1032 (Chemistry for Health Science) (3 credit hours)

* BSC1085 (Human Anatomy & Physiology I) (3 credit hours)

* BSC 1085L (Human Anatomy & Physiology Lab) (1 credit hour)

* BSC 1086 (Human Anatomy & Physiology II)(3 credit hours)

* BSC 1086L (Human Anatomy & Physiology II Lab) (1 credit hour)

*HCP0130 (Health Career Core) (75.0 Contact Hours)

Is this true????.. I mean, in MDC they're asking for the credits above + 16 more in general education...

So what am I missing???

Yes, those are the minimum requirements to apply and get in the program. But you will still need to take some other classes to satisfy the degree requirements. They are:

-Humanities course with writing credit

-Social and Behavioral Science course

-MCB2013 & Lab (Microbiology and Lab)

Some people take them while in the program, but I chose to get them out of the way beforehand. I have all the other pre-reqs from Miami-Dade too, but didn't need them for this degree. However, some will go toward my BSN, which I plan on completing once I pass my boards.

Ohhh Ok!!!

I don't see the clock.png i finish all that stuff...lol

Thanks again... :)

MDC does not have a waiting list. I've been hearing this forever. I don't know who started that stupid rumor lol but it is not true at all. To get into the rn program at MDC you need 30 credits. ENC1101, MAC1105, MCB2010, BSC2085(and the lab), BSC2086(and the lab), CHM1033(and the lab), PHI1206, SPC1017, and DEP2000. :)

Well right now I'm confused..lol.. everybody have told me that there was a waiting list...where did they get that from? How can I be sure now? :confused::confused::confused:

I have heard the same thing, but its nonsense, believe me! PM me and I will give you the number of my nursing adviser so you can speak with her. She is the preadmissions adviser of the nursing program.

Oh thank u...

Actually, I'm new here and I don't know how to leave PM yet...lol...:lol2:

How do I do??? lol

Oh, just kidding! Ummm do you have AIM or MSN? I can message you her number. I can't do it here in public because of privacy issues and I'll get in trouble lol. :(
