Personally, I don't know anyone that has done this. I do know few flight attendants and they seem to enjoy it. However, if it is the pain and suffering that you want to get away from, this may work. If it is business, people wanting your assistance, annoying/pushy/rude people- I don't necessarily think that this might be a good way to escape that (though I don't know that for a fact). Have you tried another field in nursing? Anyway--I hope that someone has a good opinion based on fact, only you knows what makes you happy. Good luck.

If you are prepared for a SUBSTANTIAL cut in pay and like the highly irregular hours and assignments, why not?

I like being a nurse. I do like being a nurse and my job. But I think I need a break from what I'm doing. I need a break from suffering and pain and md's! And I'm thinking about becoming a flight attendant for air canada...I think that would be cool! But I need to know what nurses think about that. Do you know any of your friends who decided suddenly to quit nursing for a flight attendant position? Do they like it? Are they happy? I might even find a nurse here on allnurses.com who went through that...

Anyway, I need your advices....

After finishing my BSN I became an international flight attendant for 9 yrs.. before I even started working as a nurse. You can private e-mail me for more specific questions.

my son was a cna, now a flight attendent. He loves it. officially he makes close to 19.00 an hour but he is only guarenteed 75 hours a month. and while you may be at work for 6 hours, you only get paid for the time the door is shut on the plane until it opens again. so the time you spend doing your prep work, boarding the passengers and deboarding them is all on your own time. (so on your next flight step lively to help the poor flight attendent out)

hey in the 80's and 90's real estate was the place to be for ex nurses.

I think you should do it! Sometimes change is as good as vacation. :)

One good thing about nursing is that you can always go back. Who knows, maybe you will combine the two one day and become a flight nurse!

Hi there, I was a flight attendant when I was 18 and I worked for Japan Airlines for about 3 years and I am now 35 and I am a ADN student.

My friend has been working for Air Canada in Vancouver for over 10 years. She and her husband( he is a purser) both enjoy their job. The only thing that she has concerned about the job is job security. She said they had laid off a lot of newly hire and they also have cut a lot of long flights. So now she doesn't fly as much as she should be. She is also having problems getting pregnant for some reason. And I have no idea if it is job related or something else.

Personally, I think being a flight attendant is similar to being a nurse. It is just that you don't need to know as much. You do have to remember some about plane configurations and meals. (which is no big deal).

I used to love to be a flight attendant because I can fly to a lot of places. But if you first start out at Air Canada, you will be stuck with local flights only, you will be flying from Vancouver to Toronto and similar trips like that. You will not be able to fly to Hong Kong or Europe unless you have a language priority.

Flight attendanting is hard work too. You will need to do a lot of lifting as well. I remember the main problems that I had before with the job is I suffered from insomnia a lot and it didn't help too much as people told you some scary stories about different hotel rooms and stuff....
