I'm super geeked right now. I start a CNA program on monday. After working countless jobs in a call center I decided to try to get into a CNA program here at a local community college while I finish my pre reqs for the BSN program. The great thing about this is since its not covered thru financial aid a local workforce center is paying for it. Wish me luck

Good luck! I think that's a very smart choice to be a CNA first! I'm a PCT and will be going back to school in January for my pre reqs. So exciting. =}
Thanks everyone for the support. I kept telling myself for awhile to take a CNA course. It will give me experience working in a healthcare field while pursuing a degree in nursing. After this semester I have to take Chemistry and Statistics before I can apply for a BSN program. I'm super nervous and excited at the same time.

I'll be starting nursing school in April, and have been a CNA for 3 years in both LTC and the hospital. You are making a great decision - you will learn so much that you can take with you into your nursing career, and will have a good idea going into your BSN program what nursing is all about. I would stop short of saying that being a CNA for 1 year minimum should be a REQUIREMENT for future nurses, but I think that it is definitely the way to go. You start out your nursing training with your eyes WIDE open about what is going on in patient care, and you learn the kind of nurse you do and do not want to be. It is not the greatest paying job (a starving nursing student could make more as a waitress, and there are many days where I feel more like a waitress - "2 creams with your coffee, sir???"), but it is the best job to have when entering this field. Hope the CNA trainining went/is going well.
Hi everyone. I completed the CNA course and I am now just waiting to take my state exam once approved by bon. I'm praying that everything works out smoothly.
