first aid training

Published

I have completed my nursing from Seneca college and now I am planning to take up first aid training with CPR and AED. and this is approved by HRSDC. The validation of course is 3 years from date of registration. But I will be shifting to Washington with my hubby in a year. I want to know if this is valid in every country? If not which are the other course/ college I can take, that offers global validity?

Specializes in Emergency Nursing, Pediatrics.

A lot of employers in the US will only accept American Heart Association or American Red Cross, although I have seen a lot less accepting ARC and more AHA.

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

CPR for healthcare professionals is 2 years for AHA. And CPR for professional rescuer from ARC is 2 yrs but geared towards EMS and lifeguards. Both follow current ACC standards.

HRSDC is not standard. First aid is not needed for US nurses unless working in a camp or as a lifeguard.

AHA has most potential to be accepted other areas

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

That is CPR for lay rescuers not nurses & healthcare professionals. Again first aid not needed

Specializes in Pediatric Critical Care.

Definitely do an AHA "BLS for healthcare providers" class so you don't have to worry about if it will be accepted

@bvb, Your nursing education supercedes a standard first aid course. As others have said, if you take any courses they should targeted for healthcare providers.
