Last week, I was suspended at work for drug diversion of norco. I unknowingly did not waste it several times over three months. I had a clean drug test. I was told I was suspended until a further investigation was done. Now five days later, including a Saturday and Sunday, I am being called to meet with HR and my director. I am wondering if I am being fired at this point. Thank you. Confusedandsad

Were you aware of the procedure for wasting and forgot? Was it never taught to you? I'm not sure how you can unknowingly not waste a narcotic unless it wasn't covered when you were on orientation, which is a pretty serious lapse.
This is an online forum. No one here can say with any authority whether or not you're being fired. As difficult as it is, it sounds like you're just going to have to wait and see what happens. Anything else is purely speculative.

It was 6 days but nonetheless it would be clean no matter when i took it
Yes I am aware. For me thus typically happened after a 14 hour shift, being held over, nasty traumas etc. I am aware this is no excuse.

I'm confused as to how it's possible to "unknowingly not waste it several times over three months." Did you just not bother with wasting at all? Or did you waste using improper documentation?

I'm going to say improper documentation. At my facility, we can pull out a drug out of the pixus and say that we are going to administer the full amount, but then have to go back into the pixus later and waste it with another nurse. We do this all the time, since there are so many times that another nurse is nowhere to be found when we have to give a pain med to a patient. I CONSTANTLY worry that I'm going to forget to do this and just throw out the med. I think I've been good, thus far (knock on wood), since I haven't been called into the office about it. How did the meeting go, OP?
