Finding local nursing informatics groups

Specialties Informatics

Published

I have seen multiple posts with suggestions to join local nursing informatics groups in order to learn about the field of NI and network. I live in Seattle and have searched online but only found national organizations. How do you find the locals? I am a BSN/RN with 4 years acute care experience and have developed a real passion for improving the usability of software for RNs.

Greetings Noxi,

Your local NI organization is the PSNI (Puget Sound Nursing Informatics) group which can be found by going to:

http://www.psniwa.org/page1.aspx

They are having trouble with the web site as the program listed is an old one from 2008.

You just missed the most recent program, Feb 26 (Titled:"Clinical Informatics and Patient Centered Technologies") but I am sure there will be another one in a few months.

Thanks for the info! The topic for the Feb26 presentation sounds interesting, I just joined the PSNI listserv to keep up with future programs. Is 'Patient Centered Technologies' another term for applications like epic? Or would that refer to something along the lines of healthvault or google health

I'm not sure Noxi. I did not attend the Feb 26th program.

I would hazard a guess that the topic might have included anything from clinical applications (such as Epic) to smart scales or telehealth technologies that help the patient manage their disease processes.

Post your question about this to the PSNI listserve.

Good Luck!

Hello...do you know of any groups in California, Central Valley, area? Thanks!

Specializes in Informatics, Education, and Oncology.

To my knowledge there is no specific NI organization in California but I think ANIA may have a chapter in Cali.

- check it out at http://www.ania.org

ANIA and CARING are soon to merge. Both are considered national organizations.
