Finally DONE

Hey, I just wrote my last test for my LPN course, now I have 8 weeks in the hospital in various units. I was just wondering if anyone had tips for working 12 hour shifts both days and nights. I've only ever worked 8 hour shifts. thanks

Congratulations Chicklet2 on finishing you last test!! :w00t: :w00t:

Get plenty of rest for those 12 hr shifts. Sometimes after a hectic day, it can take time to wind down and relax enough to sleep. I find lavender scented candles or using Fabreze scent stories helps, a warm bath, CD with the ocean sounds, or reading a good book can help decompress stress. The point is everybody has their own method to relax. Take a nap before starting the night shifts may help. You may find sleeping during the day awkward, some people need it to be very dark, I use a light blocking blind with curtains, since I don't need it completely dark to sleep. Noise can also be a factor when sleeping during the day (people mowing lawn, neighbors doing construction work etc), some people use a fan to create "white" noise or leave their radio on low.

You will also need a good pair of shoes when you are on your feet for 12hrs.

Best of luck to you and your future career as a nurse!!!
