Excelsior's site has a whole list about what the FCCA is. I'll see if I can find it and post it here. It's basically, from what I can tell, a scenario that has you prove that you can multi-task, assign assignments, prioritize, etc. I haven't taken it myself so I don't know for sure. Let me see if I can find the info.
Here's what their website says:
Three computer-delivered simulated clinical assessments
will provide a mechanism for students to demonstrate
competencies related to the use of the nursing process:
(#496) Focused Clinical Competencies Assessment:
Head-to-toe Assessment and Nursing Process
(#497) Focused Clinical Competencies Assessment:
Managing Multiple Patients
(#498) Focused Clinical Competencies Assessment:
Participating in Intra/Interdisciplinary Health Care
Teams
The three competency areas will focus on completion of a
head-to-toe physical assessment resulting in the design of a
nursing plan of care, nursing care management of multiple
patients, and participation in intra/interdisciplinary health
care team conferences and patient care. These assess-
ments are designed to be taken upon completion of the
EIGHT nursing theory examinations and prior to the Clinical
Performance in Nursing Examination (CPNE®). You will have
a total of two hours to complete each of the three Focused
Clinical Competencies Assessments. Each two-hour time
frame includes a 10-minute tutorial and a 5-minute survey.
There will be no review option provided at the end of the
assessments.
After completing each assessment, you will receive
information that your grade report will be mailed to you
by Excelsior College within 45 days from the last day of
the testing window. Your grade will be reported as Pass
or Fail.
My understanding though, is that this is still done on paper, not computer, but that the idea is the same.

I think that's about all the information anyone gets up-front -- academic honesty is even more strict where this exam is concerned, and sharing any information about it violates EC's policies. Good luck, everyone!

I was wondering the website gives you a time window to take the FCCA.. Do they actually follow that or they send you the info once you are done with the 8th exam? It doesn't seem like you guys follow a certain time frame for registration by the months you took it! I am worry, because I wanted to have everything done by end Oct and just schedule my CPNE in Nov/Dec!
Any info will be greatly appreciate it!

I just finished my FCCA and found that the hardest part was putting it in the UPS box to send back. It was on paper still and they gave no indication as to when they are going to convert to computer. They are very strict with academic honesty, but I found everything I needed online without having to call any counselors. The paper I had in the test pack said that they would have it graded and inform me within 10 days of getting it back. Good Luck and Don't Stress...You will do fine!! :yeah:

WOW, mine is on the way to me, I feel like I'm one the last few people that is gonna be able to take it on paper - that's the impression I got from the EC rep. I hurried to test on Transitions and the FCCA is my next hurdle.
How long did it take you to complete it? Are you doing CPNE next?
I recently sent in my cpne application I am waiting for the date
The FCCA took me two days total. I got it on Wednesday, put it in the box on Friday night. It made it to Excelsior by Wednesday and was graded by Thursday. I can't complain about the speed that these people do things...they are fast as can be! My CPNE stuff took about 1 hour to accept from review and they told me I could have a date as soon as 2 weeks!
Holy wow!! Two weeks? That's awesome. That means my hope for a date in October is actually reasonable to hope for!
...same here, that has to be a record time! I can't wait to get this this behind me, I'm hoping to CPNE in Oct or Nov. I don't have a testing site prefference so it should work out.
