FAILED 1st Attempt

Published

I graduated May 2011. Took the nclex end of July and failed with 265 questions. I did not sleep AT ALL (anxiety) the night before my test and was at the site at 6 30am (test was at 8am). I was so sleepy through out the test and my eyes were burning, I was not concentrating at all and I only took 1 break. I studied using Saunder's and kaplan qbank (I was scoring mid 50's all the way through). This is the first time that I have failed a test and am very disappointed in myself. I felt like I was guessing on a lot of questions and was getting so many priority questions. By the time I left the site, I was so weak, I could barely drive home. I have now started studying again and I am using the exam cram, Kaplan qbank, and saunders. I will be retaking mid september again and I really need motivation and advice. There is SO much to remember, even with the content. I was an A & B student throughout nursing school. I was near passing on all categories of the nclex...I don't even know what this means. Any advice would be greatly appreciated (Thanks):crying2::crying2::crying2::crying2::crying2::crying2::crying2:

I didn't pass on my first try I am scheduled to retake in the middle of aug pray I can pass it the second time around. You sound just like me I was very anxious and didn't sleep at all the night before. I think you need to try the hurst review that is what Im using and it is very helpful. Also do you have the lacharity book because that is a must have when I took the test first time I didn't use lacharity or saunders. I didn't really have alot of resources. You are going to have to study like you have never took the test before that is what Im doing. I know it is sad but keep looking forward and stay postive we will get through this. Good Luck and God bless you.

hey you, dont be so hard on yourself, it takes alot to get thru nursing school and to arrive to this point in your journey. Be strong, you can do it.:)

I don't have the lacharity book but from what i've been reading in this forum, a lot of people are recommending it....I've just spent a lot of money on this process ($800.00) so far!!! What is the difference between saunders and hurst??? I think I might buy the Lacharity book since I got so many priority questions on nclex.

Saunders is okay good for reading Im using that with my hurst review. Hurst review is good for content reviewing I am listening to a lady name marleene and she really makes it fun while listening to her lectures. Yes please buy the lacharity book. That was the first thing I bought after not passing.

Keep at it and you will pass.

i was in the same situation until last thursday when i took the exam for the 2nd time and passed. it's doable and you will pass next time. my first attempt i was just like you, my test was early in the morning and i didn't sleep, i took only one break, my eyes were hurting me and i also went all the way to 265. going to 265 is not a bad thing, it means you were close, unfortunately you didn't pass. review your content, know your infection control and get the la charity book, you've seen how many priority questions there is, your next attempt will also have a lot of priority questions and la charity will help you understand it.

45 days is a lot of time to study if you dedicate yourself to it. study 2-4 hours day, do a lot of questions and make sure to read the rationales.

my second time i scheduled my exam for the afternoon and picked a different site because i wanted to have a different experience.

keep your head held high, pray and ask for guidance, you will be fine.

I so know what you are going through!! I just took my test and failed too with 265 questions. It is going to be ok. We are going to pass the next time. I am now looking into new ways of studying since I had so many priority questions. But just keep your head up and hit the books. If it is meant to be it will be!!!

Good Luck

You won't be the last one to fail on the first try, don't give up. The way you studied was ok but you probably need help with critical thinking. If you kept getting alot of the same questions on the test then you were getting them wrong so go back over those topics.

Hello All!!!! I am new to this site. I was inspired to join after reading all the great posts. I also, failed my first try, and now I am still a bit nervous, not as much. I just want to know if anyone has taken Kaplan course and if so, what were your scores and did you feel it helped?? Please in desperate need of help. No more money to waste!!

1 thing that gets me down is that when I'm on this website, I read that some people are failing on 7th or 8th attempts. Then I start thinking that that could be me :-( I hope and pray that it won't be me....I can't imagine taking that test 7,8,9 times.....I can't even imagine taking it a 3rd time....DO they make the test harder as you retry??? But then again, they are courageous enough to keep going back at it and NOT giving up....So that gives me a little HOPE

Yeah that is what scares me are those posts, but they are very courageous and I admire them by not giving up.
