failed job interview

been job hunting since sept. 18 and have recently been turned down during a part time job psych opportunity in the hospital. they were very paranoid because i guess i applied for part time...the interview question was like

1.i see you have been doing full time all your career life, how would we know that you are not going to quit if you see a full time opportunity?

2. our hospital is quite a drive away from your house, why are you applying with us?

3. i interviewed after doing 12 hour night shift and had no sleep..took shower home and drove one hour away for interview, and now was just told one week later " we want to thank you for interviewing, but we have given the position to another applicant".

i am so sad. i really want a structured job instead of just sitting in the parking lot of a hospital thru agency and await whether i will be cancelled for my 7p to 7 a shift

4. im sure my age is a contributing factor too for being a reject...:o

5. in the hospital where i am doing agency work in psych unit , i am doing orientation /shadowing/percepting to young new grad who easily got the charge nurse full time 12 hour night job in psych unit then an older nurse like me ( i previously applied to same hospital for full time where i am currently working as agency and never got the job)

thanks for listening...needed to get this off my chest because all of my friends are tired of listening to my situation....

I have been looking for work since 8/19 when terminated for job at same comp for 25yrs. did phone advice no one hiriing w/o exp. looking to do refresher just to get updated. so frushtrated. being nurse for 25yrs and seem to have no experience where does it all go? Do these comps realize that these days we are willing to take any shift, any place, any status???

I agree it's discouraging having years of experience, both technical and the all important life experience, to only be tossed aside for a new grad. And what's to keep the new grad for leaving for a full time position?

Getting a job used to be so easy for me. It's not so easy any more. I really believe that by the time you hit 55, you'd better be where you can see yourself spending the rest of your career. I especially love the question "What is your 10 year plan?" It is asked knowing well the answer is going to be "retirement." Set, match, point, game over.

Hello,

I am sorry that you feel so down... I have been applying at the same hospital for over a year, then finally when it looked like I was going to get the job, I got a call and they just wanted to let me know that they gave the job to someone else but to keep applying, maybe in the future...

I don't know what else to say, also I'm guessing that so many people who have been off work, have gone back to study healthcare jobs, like nursing because it's ressesion(sp?) proof, and they have so many different people applying for that position from different backgrounds.

Also the fact that you lived far, shouldn't have been the issue. I know people who commute 2 hours to and from work. I've also applied at places that have been 50 miles way from my home.

Well I wish you luck, and don't despair... You will find something and will be happy with the position for a long time. :loveya:

for "older" nurses like me (i am 46 years old) and working in psych the last 11 years in hospital ( been an RN last 16 years ).....the future is bleak....my life is like the song..." STAYING ALIVE" or DIE HARD in this economy....:o:o:cry::o

i attended a job fair in september and met an older lady who said she did a refresher course in nursing( left nursing for 15 years to raise kids) completed the course, cant find a job and ended up doing a refresher course again ....aint that something?

wish i attended grad school when i was younger ie 15 years ago ..

thanks again to everyone for your kind support...
