Experience with Celexa....

Not sure if I am allowed to ask this question, I am not asking for medical advice, rather any personal experiences anyone has ever had with taking Celexa. Both bad and good experiences as well as those lovely sexual side effects.

I have already consulted with my Dr and we are trying Celexa to treat depression and anxiety. I have been on Paxil and wellbutrin in the past and didn't have much luck. Just looking for any input from people that have been on this medication.

Saved my life Literally. Did have some "flare ups" that required increasing my dosage. Have noticed no side effects and I was able to continue taking it while I was pregnant. Have been on it for 4+ years. Be aware that when you start you may feel low for a few weeks until you body gets used to having it on board. Why suffer with depression if you don't have to. And I'm sure you doctor has encouraged you to see a counsellor for depression. Between the celexa and counselling my life is alot less blue and I a more emotionally available for my family. I suffered with depression for alot of years and wish I had sought help earlier nowthat I know how much medication helps. Best of Luck

I was on Celexa for about a year. It was really good at taking the edge off my depression, although we had to ramp up my dose a few times. It wasn't so good at working on my anxiety. I haven't found anything that is. (The blankety-blank doctor wanted me to take Inderal. Inderal is sometimes given for performance anxiety, and that's not what I have.) But anyway, I liked the Celexa and didn't notice any negative s/e. I wouldn't know about sexual side effects...what's sex?

I'm so glad you posted this..... I'm on Zoloft for PPD and I've been wanting to wean off of it, but every time I try I end up turning in to an ugly monster.... Anyway, with getting ready to apply for nursing school, I was worried that I may be rejected because of my depression issues.... I guess I've just been worried about that... I'm not that bad, just some days I felt down in the dumps and kinda like my world was out of control.... now it's much better, I just worry about what that might do to my career...

Any thoughts???

Thanks for all your input!! I am really hoping this is "the one" that helps me. Depression sucks!!! Not only for me but for my husband and my young kids, they deserve to have thier mommy back, and hopefully this will help. Thanks again!!

Your depression IS NOT THE BUSINESS OF ANY SCHOOL. Would you make a point of telling them in your application that you're a diabetic or hypertensive, for example? Would you tell a potential employer about your depression in a job interview, or tell the person doing the pre employment physical? No. Why would you share this information with the school? Don't. Not even if they dare ask you, and I don't think it's even legal to ask these questions. They only need to know of genuine limitations or handicaps which need special accomodation -- for example if you are in a wheelchair, are blind or hearing impaired. If they kept everyone with depression out of nursing, there might be a handful left. Most nurses are affected with some kind of stress, anxiety, and depression. You are doing the right thing for yourself with getting treatment and counseling. Good luck to you, and keep moving forward with your life!!!

I have been taking Celexa for a little over 5 years now. My doctor also prescribed it for anxiety and depression. It has definetely helped with both. I used to have major anxiety attacks. No negative sexual side effects for me.
