Evidence Based Information on Stepdown ratios

I am currently working in a facility with ratios 4:1 and flexing 5:1 on the step down unit.

The Cna ratio is 9.5:1 and they will not approve a second cna until we are at 20 patients.

The nurse responsibilities are to check vitals q 4, check accu checks and dressing changes.

The only way to get this changed is with evidence based research.

This is a new ratio on the unit mandated by the new Cno.

I have seen the entire moral of the staffing change.

It seems like patients are no longer first.

Any info is appreciated.

The patients never came first. The corporate bottom line is always first.

I have seen the ratios increase with each new director. They are busy little new bees, making money for the company... off the sweat of your back.

Keeping you sidetracked, looking for evidence based research. They know the deal, more nurses equals better patient outcomes. Tons of documentation supporting that.

By the time you present it, the ratios will be firmly entrenched.

I agree, seems pointless. But before I turn my back and leave this place, I would like to try and make a difference.

Atleast I will sleep better at night.
