So, I have only been a nurse for 19 months and I am 48 years old. I feel like I have made a huge mistake. I cannot seem to keep up (I work in a SNF). It takes me into lunch time to complete my morning med pass and then I have to skip my own lunch break so that I can get the treatments done. I have been thinking about this for a while and over the weekend I recognized that in all my work experiences of the last 29 years I have never been successful in jobs where I needed to work quickly or meet a quota. Did I make a mistake? Should I look for a new career? I don't even know what else I would do....

Go to a home health agency and speak to someone about working extended care case(s). One stable patient, routine care for pretty much the same pay you are now getting. Less stressful all the way around. All you have to be concerned with to any extent are the out there families. Get a sensible family and you are set.
Thank you! I have been looking into home health but they all seem to want experience (that I don't have). I'm going to keep looking.
They look more for experience when one asks for intermittent visit work. Specify that you want extended care, also called shift work, continuous care, or “private duty”. Many agencies will hire right out of school. They provide (varying) levels of training/orientation. You have experience. Call first and ask if the agency does extended care cases or if they only do visits. You don’t want to waste time going to an agency that exclusively offers visit work.

Lunch is rare. SNF is extremely busy and usually don't get too much help.
Davita hires dialysis LPN's. Doctors offices. Administrator in Personal care. Look around for what LPN's can do in your area. SNF usually pays the best....
