ER BOOKS???

Any ER book recommendations for a new grad starting off in the ER? I've been on the unit for about 5 months now, but I want to become more educated on why we do the things we do (obviously I know we draw assess/draw blood etc for specific s&is but I'd like to know if there was a book that was more in depth about different complaints/what is expected of ER nurses). Hope that makes sense. Thanks!

    Sheehy's Manual of Emergency Care.

    I just bought the 7th edition online for $47.

    This book is ENAs gold standard. My facility does an ED Internship for anyone new to the ED (new grad or experienced nurse) and the content in that internship program is based from the ENA content in these books.

    You could also buy TNCC and ENPC so you are thorough on trauma and pediatrics even if your facility doesn't technically take those patients; you have to be ready for anything.

    These books will help you later if you decide to get CEN too.

    I used (and still use) Sheehy's Manual of Emergency Care and Sheehy's Emergency Nursing: Principles and Practice. Two big helpful books!

    Polly Zimmerman's book on Triage Nursing Secrets is the best nursing text I've come across. It's out of print, but you can get it used on Amazon currently.

    I carried one of these ~10 years ago and found it helpful, however am unfamiliar with the current edition.
