ER Aides

my best friend works in the ed in the hospital i work in. his job basically consists of taking patients vitals, assisting them to the commode, and transporting them to x-ray, med/surg floors or whereever they are admitted. he also does computer work and runs to the med. records department to grab the files and brings them to the floors. i have to say that i work on a med/surg floor, with no plans to go into nursing, and i feel like i have learned a lot just from my short-time working there. i'm sure you'll learn a lot in the ed as well. you'll make the right decision! good luck!

I'm not an ER aide, can't buy a job at the hospitals around here and would be glad to be in your shoes. Don't let that director tell you what to do (she probably just doesn't want to lose good help, can't blame her there, but why stay and wonder what could have been just because you might make her mad?). If you're feeling like it's time to step out of the comfort zone, I'm sure the ER is a wonderful place for that!

I work in the ER and love it. We do such a variety of things and the things we see are amazing. I get to help the docs with procedures (pelvics, casting, stitching etc.) At our ER we can do splints, clean the rooms (make the bed, clean up trash), sit with patients that need it. I went to school to be a CNA II (in NC so we have the 2 levels) and I can do urinary Caths, prime IV tubing, suction, etc. We are relied on as the ears and eyes of the nurses and they really appreciate everything we do for them. In a nut shell I love it.
