Entry Level MSN- Personal Statement Help

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hello everyone,

I am currently in the process of writing my personal statement for Cal Baptist's EL-MSN program. I have my BS in Public Health but have always wanted to be a Nurse. I know that I need to include the school's mission statement and philosophy statement so they see that I am a good match for their program. CBU requires the Comprehensive essay to includes:

  • Purpose for entering the program
  • Significant events and influences that have affected your approach to life
  • Long-term professional goals
  • Reasons for choosing to study at CBU

I have a few ideas in mind but can't narrow them down. How do you know what your long-term professional goals would be if you haven't been exposed to every unit?

I feel stuck. Any help would be beneficial.

Thank you in advance!

I have a BS in Public health and Im currently finishing an Entry level MSN. I dont recall my essay but it pretty much was talking about my work in public health and my goals to improve my community etc. I have lots of work experience as a health educator and I think that helped. I just stated that I wanted to be a public health nurse but didnt specify what population I wanted to work with. good Luck

You probably don't have to specify a particular job or clinical specialty area in the statement. But you should have some general ideas of why you want to be a nurse. Why have you chosen to go into nursing? What are your fantasies? What do you imagine when you imagine yourself as a nurse 10 years from now? If you have no thoughts on these things, then what about nursing interests you?

I usggest you throw out a few ideas here and get our reaction to them. Just start brainstorming and see what comes out that you can develop.

Thank you everyone for your help. I was starting to brainstorm last night as to what to write. I had so many ideas and was excited to start writing. I decided to check my email and saw that I had received an email from RCC nursing. I got accepted into their program for this fall! At first I was torn because I really want to do the EL-MSN program but who is crazy enough to pass up this chance?!?

So it looks like I do not have to write a personal statement... for now. I would like to continue on to my Masters someday.

Thank you again!

Maybe you'll see me posting "Help! need advice on Clinical!" Lol
