I Haven't completed all my Prereqs but i wanted to "ENROLL" today. if i do, did i beat the OCT 1,2012 deadline. I'm basically trying to beat this below... 4) The School of Nursing limits the acceptance of credit from the National College Credit Recommendation Service
(National CCRS) and the American Council on Education (ACE) to 25% of the general education component
towards the nursing degree requirements. No credit from these sources will be accepted for core requirements.
A maximum of 7 credits from these sources
can apply to the Associate degrees in nursing programs and a maximum
of 15 credits can apply to the Bachelor of Science in nursing degree and the RN to Master of Science in nursing.
Acceptance of credit earned from military training, CLEP, and DANTES examinations will not be limited.

Hi,
If you enroll today, yes, you definitely would beat the Oct 1 deadline. I spoke to the Admissions Office today (after a hold time of 20 minutes... they are getting very BUSY!). I am filling out my enrollment form and will likely fax mine in with my credit card info the 27th or 28th of this month. Another option is to do it online. If you have more than 7 ACE credits, for sure you will want to beat the Oct 1 deadline.
My issue with the Oct 1 deadline is that my A&P I and II are both over 5 years old, and I didn't want to have to retake those.
Good luck!

Yes, I actually emailed them and was told this is so. I do have to still retake a few credits that are over ten years old but
the changes to the program begin 10/1/12, so if it affects you-get your registration in. I'll be doing the same.

Just curious, what do you have to retake? I have some really old credits that they accepted...
Lifespan Psych
Sociology
A&P
Microbiology
Math (I took algebra but because it was beginners algebra they will not accept it as my math credit)
I have ALL of these, but they wouldn't accept my credits-just my LPN. And I found that my experience really does not count towards my degree. So basically it's almost like I'm starting all over. I wasn't happy about it and don't really understand why, but this is still the fastest/least expensive way for me to complete my RN. They waiting lists here are long and I must work FT.
I kind of think it's a money thing honestly but it is what it is, so hopefully I can clep most of these, rather than the online courses and save some tuition money.

Wow, that is disturbing. You have the credits, have taken the classes, but yet... they would not accept them. When you first applied, did they indicate that any of those credits might not be accepted??!! I know they have the standard disclaimer about not completing the final evaluation until you are enrolled, but still!!!! I am very sorry to hear that!
You should be able to CLEP the Lifespan (Human Growth & Development), Math, and also the Sociology. I did the CLEP HG&D.
Check into Straighterline for the A & P... I know some people that used that and were happy. I used Straighterline for Eng101 and Medical Terminology.
Where did you take the Math? I used ALEKS, and it was also a Beginning Algebra, but it was College level and also ACE accredited... I was told that it would be accepted.
The Microbiology... I plan to take the Excelsior exam... about to pay for that and/or Health Safety and maybe Transitions. My intention is to enroll before Oct 1.
Good luck to you!
Hi Barbara,
Thanks for the heads up on Straighterline & ALEKS! Will check them out. I need to do this as cost effectively as possible, Have a son in his Sr yr at college, he's working an internship and has financial aid but still-And he is getting married next yr. So money is tight!
I took my prereqs at the same community college where I completed my LPN, so yes I was disheartened to hear I basically have to take them all over. If I didn't have to work and there was no years long waiting list I would have just done this at community college ($66 a credit hour!)because the only upside is you do it at your own pace. It's almost like starting over completely. So I'm not sure what they are giving me credit for with my LPN-I don't see it in my credit review. I was formally enrolled two years ago and had the formal review.
Will just have to keep plugging along and praying brain rot hasn't set in yet! Lol. I need this for the salary increase and I would like to expand my horizons into other areas of nursing where my LPN can't take me.
On to transitions. I hope to have that under my belt within a few weeks..
Thanks a bunch for your help!

Hi Ms P..
So... have you tried to contact anyone at the Excelsior Admissions office since your formal review was done 2 years ago, to ask WHY those credits were not accepted? I think I would have to pursue that FIRST, appeal that decision, before going back to retake everything. I'm sorry, but it doesn't make sense to me! Maybe, just maybe.... it could be a mistake, or you could win on appeal??!!
On my credit review, there is nothing noted for being a Paramedic, but like you, with LPN... we would not be allowed to even apply if we didn't already have those licenses... they wanted a copy of my new license that just renewed this year, which I just faxed on Friday.
I have to give you a lot of credit for your determination, despite being told you would have to retake everything! That is truly amazing! I think it could be a deal breaker for me, if, when I enroll, I am told I would have to retake anything... cheers to YOU!
Well, good luck... keep me posted on your progress!!
Barbara
Thanks Barbara, I think I may appeal the math and A&P but either way I need to do this. I've spoken with the. Recently without much success. Yup, had to mail them my new license as well. I just don't have many other affordable options for school that I can do now without a wait list, sooooo.. EC it is. Hope I can make it while dealing with my menopause symptoms- should be fun for Hubby- Ha!
And well, I'm pretty much capped out on a LPN salary. There's no one paying LPNs any more than I'm making so I have to do it if I want to work in higher skilled areas or if I want to be able to retire someday ;0) I do, I do!
Well, I'm impressed by your determination!! Let's keep in touch!!
