I took it through Excelsior. I'm not sure what their stand is on Penn Foster, but I know they will not honor CLEP with essay. I would def call and check with an academic advisor, just in case.

Good Luck!

Any time you have a question about the acceptability of a course or test, you need to contact an advisor at EC. Their policies might change from time to time and you don't want to waste effort or money.

I took ECs English Comp and didn't do all that well, it took over 30 days to get a grade, EC said they do not accept CLEP but they do accept UEXCEL Written English. So I CLEPed Humanities and UECEL for English. EC English was 300 some dollars for 6 credits CLEP 75 dollars UXCEL 88 dollars and 30 dollars for the MyAccess writing tool.

That's what worked for me, good luck to you

Was the UEXCEL ENGLISH course easier than the excelsior course? I was trying to see what my options was because I have never been that good at English especially essays. Thanks

It was a lot easier the the EC version, it's only a 3 credit test as compared to the 6 credit test for EC. I studied and tested out of both CLEP Humanities and UEXCEL English in 3 weeks and got 9 credits out of it. Another plus for going this way is if you are planning on going on to your BSN, I think you will need the extra credits in humanities. That and it being a lot cheaper makes it really attractive. On the EC test I got a D and the UEXCEL a B that and the score is computer generated so you'll know what you got when you leave the test center.

Thanks for the info Steve! I think UEXCEL is going to be the route for me to go.

Hi Steve

How was the clep Humanities test? I still have to have 3.0 Humanities and 2.0 arts and sciences electives. Do you know if that will cover both of these?

Thanks

The CLEP humanities wasn't to bad, let's see I think I studied a whole week for it, an got a P. As far as it meeting the humanities requirements it does, but as for the Arts and Sciences, I'm not sure, you might want to check with your EC advisor. Sounds like a cop out, but if your advisor tell you it meets the requirements and puts it in an email then you have proof they told you.

Hello

I checked with my advisor and the humanities class will count for the 5 credits that i needed. What did you use to study for the clep humanities exam?

Thanks

I bought one of the CLEP study books, it turned out not a whole lot of the questions/answers were on the test, but then again I have seen that on the EC tests also. I think CLEP has study guides on their web site, google CLEP, that may help you more. I found that if you carefully read the questions and answers you will know which is right, you might have to dig in your brain a bit deeper, but you'll know.

Just remember all you have to do is score a 50 or better to get a passing score, and by the way I scheduled and tested at DeVry, I called them about scheduling a test and I was told pretty much come in any time between 9:00 and 5:00 and test, no finger/ palm prints just went there and took the test.
