Hey,
Im just looking for some help as I am a UK national hoping to emmigrate to the Seattle area in the summer of 2011 and was wondering if anyone knows anyone , british or otherwise who has emmigrated, and how they went about securing work for their visa purposes?
Im able to gain a 3 temporary visa ,working in areas where the government says you're short of nurses but dont get a choice of where or what that is. My other option is to apply for a green card as a professional but in order to get that I need to secure employment before I apply for a permanent visa.
So really Im just asking if anyone has any ideas who/when to approach???
Many Thanks x x x

I don't know the answer to your question, but I wish you luck. I am interested in similar info, but in the opposite direction... (emigrating to Europe).

Would suggest you check on the website of US homeland security. You can search on how to apply for working visa... or apply as immigrant with your professional credentials. Good Luck

There is no nursing shortage that I am aware of in the Seattle area. There is actually a nurse surplus in most areas of the USA. So it would be EXTREMELY difficult for someone to show show a need to employ immigrating nurses, barring very undesirable areas, or extremely poor paying/condition jobs.
There is NO current shortage of nurses in the USA, and there are significant numbers of local nurses unemployed/underemployed.
Second, retrogression is in effect, which means a significant delay in ANYONE getting a visa to work here. For some areas such as nurses attempting to immigrate from the Philippines or Asia, waits of 4-6 years are being quoted by those in the know. Much like in the EU, it is very difficult to demonstrate needs to employ noncitizens, when there are plenty of unemployed citizens to employ.
As show to find employment and be permitted within the next year and half, would be very difficult, I must imagine.
There are people that come in via H1b Visas. This requires one be a specialist/have specialty training, and they are few, hard to come by, and not reliable.
