Was wondering if anyone else had an Emergency differential and what it is? We saw 57000 last year in a 32 bed ed. We have just found out we got a raise but administration decide to take away .50 of our diff down to 1.00. How can they justify this when we cant keep staff and why work your a$$ off when you can do half the work making only a dollar less on the floor! Makes great sense!

Out of my 4 ER's jobs I've had since becoming a nurse, my PRN job is the only one that pays $2.00/hr more for ER. :bluecry1:

The hospital I worked at before I started traveling had a $2 ICU differential, but ER nurses didn't get that differential, because they said that ER wasn't a "critical care" environment!!! :trout:

No diff here. Doesn't that just crack you up about not being critical care nurses. What could be more critical than a triple A, gunshot to the head or AMI? Just goes to show that ER nurses are big cream puffs because we don't stand up for ourselves and our knowledge.

Ecat...Now c'mon. You knew that posting such a statement was going to get the flames going your way - and you did it anyway!

No, I have never worked ER. But from what I know, yes, you all do indeed work your a$$es off. But HALF THE WORK???? When's the last time you worked on a floor, if ever (I don't think I recall seeing it on your profile)?

I guess I just kinda felt like that was a big slap in the face, especially as I am on the verge of MAJOR BURNOUT! Actually I think I'm already there.

Do you think missing lunches and breaks and running all shift is a phenomenon exclusive to ER nurses?!?

Get real!! :angryfire

ecats stateement about half the work went completely over my head. I have worked the floor and it is brutal. I think ecat doesn't have enough experience to understand how hard working the floor is.

Lets hope that ecat learns to have a greater appreciation for her peers that work different departments.

No Diff here for ER or ICU. I left a busy unit to go to the ER,.will NEVER go back,..you obviously haven't worked on a floor if you believe it's "half the work"!

Yes, I was sympathetic and open to what Ecat was saying until I read that "half the work" part and my open mind closed right up hearing that.

Sometimes, ER staff has slow shifts and down time. Other times, it's totally crazy. Well it's totally crazy on the floors 24/7.

Wrong choice of words, Ecat.
