Hello everyone! I'm new to this website so I'm hoping to figure my way around here pretty quickly. I am about to graduate with my nursing degree in 73 days!!!! Not that I am counting or anything...

NICU nursing has definitely become my passion and I just cannot wait to get out there and start working. I am nervous about finding a position that will accept a new grad, but I'm keeping my chin up and hoping for the best.

I do have one last paper I have to write for school. It has to be an evidence based practice topic using the PICOT format and of course I would like to choose one relevant to the NICU. Since I don't have years of experience working there I was wondering if any of the experienced nurses can give me some ideas on hot topics in the field at the moment? Any insight would be appreciated. I consider myself a sponge at the moment! I will take any and all insight or advice!! :) So excited...

How about "Kangaroo Care" unique only to NICU

Specializes in Nurse Scientist-Research.

In a way, I echo the previous poster. But I will elaborate. Some of the biggest topics in neonatal care today are developmental care and one of the big components of developmental care is family-centered care.

I am working my RN to BSN and I've been doing some research. There are so many sub-topics; noise control, cycled lighting, positioning, kangaroo care, appropriate stimulation, family/parental involvement.

Neonatal care has advanced so dramatically in the past couple of decades and many infants now survive, but now we are trying to deal with infants that have such disorganized responses due to the fact that they spent their last few weeks of gestation not floating in a warm bag of water, but being assaulted by noise, light and people with sharp implements.
