Easing My Insecurity

Published

Hi,

I'm having a few insecurities around pursing nursing. I had a friend tell me how his other friend is passionate about what he learned in school and that is why he loves nursing. He then went on to ask me why I wanted to do nursing and I couldn't say that I'm passionate about what I'm learning. Right now I am only taking Anatomy and Physiology and doing well. I have an A. Go ME! My question comes from the fact that even though I am doing well in the class and understand the material, I can't say I'm passionate about it. I don't get a thrill from learning new anatomy. My question is what does that say about wanting to be a nurse? As a nurse are you passionate about the human body? I want to be a nurse so I can have a career that is hands on and helping people. Also to make a living wage while doing it. Let me know your thoughts.

This is a great question , I had this dilemma myself .. I hear some nurses say that they met an inspiring nurse ,they've wanted to be a nurse since they were a child , they are fascinated with the learning involved . When I started nursing I actually wasn't even sure what I wanted to do , I thought Maybe social work or psychology ... I chose nursing partially because I thought it would be just as satisfying , but also more practical for my situation . I also like learning in General though i don't have a particular preference on the subject .. Sometimes it seemed like this "passion" was some sort of a pre req that I was failing . Nursing was new to me , becoming a CNA helped solidify my choice. In the end , I followed through and had a lot of really tough growing to do to get better at it. I've grown to feel the passion , I was lucky as this may as well have been a shot in the dark for me. And I don't care what anyone says , there are very few nurses that are complete naturals . Everyone's going to raise these questions as time goes on and they grow to find the answers . I don't know if this is the right choice for you but definitely think about this and maybe become a CNA ! Good luck

Passionate? It depends on the human and the body.

I've always loved it. A &P I enjoyed, Micro I enjoyed.

I'm NOT enjoying my BSN classes and the APA style of paper writing (which I conveniently blocked out when I graduated with a BA in Psych eons ago!)

If you truly don't like it, quit, and find what you do like. Good luck.

Failing the passion prereq. I like that. I'm glad to know someone else has been where I'm at.
