Hi, I hope this doesn't sound really stupid, but what are duty shoes and where can I buy them?
Thanks:)

I am not sure why you are asking this question. They are generally shoes that you wear when you are at work. You should have been given some guidance as to what colour, ie: navy, brown etc. The shoes need to conform to occupational health and safety guidelines, ie: the toe needs to be covered, the heel supported and a minimal heel, so it will be a closed shoe with a low heel and a non slip sole is required. You should find suitable shoes at a good shoe store.

Duty shoes? Remember those "Sensible" shoes your mother always wanted you to get? Those ones!

LOL!
Speaking of footwear, my mum used to refer to my sandles as "Jesus Sandles". Guess she thought they looked like the type Jesus would wear. I still laugh.

An add on to joannep, I have a feeling they also need to be leather as well.
Oh, and please make sure their comfortable. Personally I've found one brand that I really like. I don't have to wear them in and their light weight, their made of Kangaroo leather which is lighter than cow leather.
One golden rule to remember when buying shoes: Comfort before Fashion
Thanks for all the info everyone.
In my student handbook under uniform it said Navy, Black or White duty shoes, being new to all this I thought there was a specific shoe I needed to buy, oops:imbar
Thanks again.
I like doc martin's shoes. Although I have had my Kickers since I qualified! Nearly 4 years! With a clean, they still look new and the sole is still intact and hardly worn. Best £45 I have spent!

emmy, I find the best shoes for work are the New Zealand company, Kumfs. Their website is http://www.kumfs.com/ which has a list of their stores/distribution throughout Australia.

Thanks Joanne
I've had a look on their web site and ordered a Catalogue.

In addition to the above, there is another sensible criterion to look for if you work the clinical area. Ensure the soles are non-synthetic and have a high rubber content. In the event of contact with live products you won't then close the circuit and become a statistic. Body protected circuits made this requirement less important, but not all areas have them. :uhoh21:
