Duke MSN program

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone,

Recently, I've garnered a lot of interest in applying for Duke University's MSN program. I know their minimum GPA requirement is a 3.0, but there is no information on their mean GPA. I have tried to look into other sources for this information, but to no avail. I hope to gauge my competitiveness or just to know if it's worth going through the application process.

If anyone can help me and know of a rough estimate of the average GPA and/or GRE scores or students admitted for their MSN program or better yet, can refer me to those who got into the program, I would greatly appreciate it.

Additional Information:

I graduated from a BSN program with a cumulative GPA of 3.4. I know it may be on the low side, but what are my chances if I applied?

Thank you for your time! Have a lovely day! ?

Getting into Duke is a highly competitive business. I recently found out why. In the DNP program, they have never had any student not succeed in the program. They make it clear during orientation that students selected were chosen not by accident, but by the confidence faculty have that students will succeed. Consequently, their philosophy is to take only the top earners who they have no doubt will make it through the program. On the negative side, its hard to get in, but on the plus side, once you get in, you know you have a great chance at being succesfull.

I'm an ABSN student at Duke and I completely agree with Tammy. My goal is to pursue the DNP when I graduate next year and I have been told it is very competitive, even as an internal applicant. I would definitely suggest attending the open house on the 27th of this month, if you're local and available to do so. They provide admission stats, class demographics, and application info. Good luck!

Go to one of their quarterly info. sessions and talk to the instructors. They are very helpful and willing to talk. If you sign up on their more info link they will notify you by email. I am in my first semester of the MSN program and while I am working my hindparts off I am very pleased. I am nursing is a second career to me so when I went back to school to get my BSN I did SIGNIFICANTLY better than my first bachelors. A 3.4 with experience puts you in the running but you still need to take the GRE since Duke requires it. My only complaint so far? The cost. However, my PA colleagues at work, several who will have bigger student loans than I will. Say," Oh well, Its just another mortgage payment and you will be able to afford it."

HI,

I'm considering Duke's online MSN FNP program. I have a 3.4 cumulative and my most recent online RN To BSN with a minor in psych has a 3.8 GPA. I'm trying to decide between Duke and Frontier. I wil definitely need assistance with the costs of both, but Duke is much higher. Can you tell me how you are enjoying Duke's program, and if you had considered Frontier also?

Often, if you call grad programs they can give you information like mean GPA/GRE over the phone. They probably won't tell you your personal odds of getting in, but that should get you started.
