Duke CRNA class 2022

Published

Hey guys,

I'll be starting the Nurse Anesthesia program at Duke in August 2019. I was wondering if there was a forum or a facebook group where we could get to know each other a little. I'm also curious if anyone has any advice on where to live in the Durham area. I would like to live within approximately 10-15 mins of school without paying outrageous prices.

Looking forward to hear back from everyone.

Hey! I'll be starting in the fall as well. I actually live in Durham and work at Duke! Feel free to shoot me an email. [email protected]

Hello to both of you,

As an accelerated second degree BSN student wanting to pursue a career as a CRNA, I'd like to ask you a few questions. What were your stats like when you applied? (GPA, experience, etc) Was this your first time applying? One question a little more personal but my main concern, living situation. Did you both save money and will be living off of savings, family support, significant other? Any information would be greatly appreciated and congratulations!

Matt

Matt,

My name is Christian, and I am also going to be starting at Duke's CRNA program in the fall. If you'd like, you can direct message me, and I will do my best to answer your questions. Good luck in school!

Hi Christian,

For some reason it won’t let me send a private a message. Before you got accepted into Dukes program, what were some things you believe or were told would help you be a strong applicant? Were you a nurse assistant before becoming an RN? How many years of RN experience did you have before applying to CRNA? Did you have extra carricular activities or any shadowing hours?

Congrats on getting into Duke’s program!

I think the reason for being blocked from private messages is we haven't made enough posts.

Things to be competitive: high GPA, good GRE, research experience (esp. when applying to DNP programs), experience on a high acuity unit, great interview, CCRN*** (pretty much have to have this, even when not required)

I was never a nursing assistant, but I've held several small jobs before being a nurse (i.e. cashier in high school, resident assistant in college). I was a member of the AACN, but I'm unsure how much extra curricular activities weigh. Ultimately, I think they want a balanced candidate; so, those help. I don't ever explicitly recall being asked how many shadowing hours; however, the more hours you have shadowing will give you more experiences to draw upon in personal statements and interviews. You need to understand the profession and know what it really entails to prove you actually want to make this big of a commitment to become a CRNA. If possible, shadowing in different environments (outpatient surgical center, hospital OR, etc.) is beneficial.

If you'd like specifics in terms of my STATS (GRE, GPA, etc.), drop your email, and I will give you some more details.

I hate to even admit this, but I am having a hell of a time finding the part of the application where I add my personal statement. I was hoping to work on that before submitting, and it doesn't appear its in the application portion anywhere. Do you think this is a glitch or is the personal statement after you submit?? Any advice is welcome. Thanks

I need help. I have filled out the application for this upcoming application period on Oct 1 2019 for class 2023. I simply can't submit until i take my GRE next week, but I wanted to work on my personal statement in the meantime. I am under the understanding that there is a precise set of instructions and topic relevant to the personal statement, but it doesn't seem to be anywhere in the actual application. Is this a glitch or is there a place to submit that after you submit the actual application. Thank for your time and help.
