Doing too much?

Hello all,

I just passed the NCLEX-RN 17 days ago. I went to school summer while studying for nclex-RN and working fulltime as an LPN. I was just expecting to take patho this fall as required for my BSN degree as my last prereq. I was not expecting to get into the program until Jan 2014. Well I went to meet my advisor and she not only signed me up for patho but actual nursing courses! She told me she wanted me to finish by summer 2014. I also have one MSN course and she said she will email me in October to declare myself as an MSN major. Is this too much while looking for a new job? Am I nuts for going back to school after I just graduated in May with my ADN?

    I think that's going to depend a lot on how well you handle stress and time management. That being said, I just finished my ADN in May and just started my full-time RN job lat week. I was initially enrolled in an online RN to BSN program that was to start the week after next. After thinking about it and talking with our new grad program directors I decided to withdraw and wait a year, as I decided the next year is going to be tough enough as a new grad in the ED, despite the fact that I'm a good student and do really well with time management.

    It would be a full load to say the least! I certainly don't want to influence a decision only you can make. Just a food for thought story that happened to a nurse I work with: She is an ADN and was enrolled in an RN to BSN bridge program with a goal of obtaining a MSN. She took 2 years off of school for personal reasons. When she re-entered the BSN program she found that after working full time for a couple years without remaining continuously enrolled in school her financial aid was very negatively impacted. She will be done with the BSN this winter and is planning on continuing directly on to MSN but it is costing her a lot more out of pocket.

    Thank you all for the advice. I think I will give it a shot on getting my BSN.I will hold off on the MSN or at least go parttime.
