Sounds like the strange "science" of psychology. All my referrence books are medical and none of them address those maladys.

I would suggest you search "psychology-family" or simply go to the school library.

I tried the libary but they are in the process of moving so they are not a great deal of help. However I am going away for the jubilee weekend, and forgetting all about uni, for a whole 4 days, allthough I may take one or two books with me,.... or maybe not

I have to take two psychology courses over the summer:( because I put them off untill the last possible time. I have gotten so upset at the text that I have thrown it accross the room!

Mind you, I have the intelligence to understand whatever worthless concepts it's attempting to prove but I simply don't want to.

I will get anxiouse to know this weekend about those triggers.

The phrase "triggers" is also used to describe autoimmune response to certain stimuli in referrence to allergies I believe. If I remember the theory correctly it referred to the possibility of antibody production being triggered by a certain event stimulating a certain foci encoded with instructions for the production of that antibody even though no antigen had been encountered.

Could be related....................Anyhooo, It's interesting to think about.

Thankfully I don't have to do another whole psychology module again, unless I choose to .... yeah right But it does keep cropping up in other modules, I have given up worrying, my holiday worked wonders, now i have to get psyched up for lectures tomorrow. When I have had the lectures I will post what the triggers are on this thread, just in case anyone would be interested.

It is a bit like the thought that nags you all day, or the forgotten lyrics to a song.

I feel so stupid, it is beyond belief, yet I said I would explain, so here goes.

MH emphasis trigger= Mental Health emphasisTriger

LD emphasis trigger= Learning Disabilities emphasis trigger

I haven't discovered the exact menaing of the other two triggers yet, but one is to do with childbirth and the other families.

I feel stupid because I forgot that thsi semester is being taught differently than the others. We are using problem based learning, and it basically means no lectures! In fact I only HAVE to be in uni for 4 days this semester ( i ahve allreday been in for 8)

we are in groups of about 12 and given a trigger, the LD one is a picture of a woman with downs sticking to fingers up, and a bit of text saying she doesn't care about people laughing ... so we now have to find out things about LD and Downs. and then present it back tot he group before we get the next trigger.

It is a lot more work then just doing the reading and going to lectures. becasue we have to cover as much as possible that could be related to the topic, incluiding psychology:(

I am not to keen on this module so far, mainly because the rest of my group does not seem to be doing as much work, and only a few are pulling their weight. Plus most of my text books are Amerian, and they use the term Mental retardation, instead of Learning Disabilities, and mental retardation is seen as an insult, and not a thing that nurses in their "non judgemental" practice should be using.

Well I expect that is as clear as mud, but i said I would write it down. So there you go:)

We're doing the same thing in my Life Span Development class. Thirteen chapters of reading, 14 audio tapes of 2 hours each AND a studyguide that's as thick as the textbook:crying2: The "instructor" left an email address and a phone number(which I am convinced just goes to a pay phone) but I have called and sent several emails of inquiry with no answer this entire week:(

Don't fell badly for using the term "mentaly retarded". It is a matter of biological fact. An apparently "learning disabled" person as you put it, is not always incapable of some amazing mental capacities such as in the case of a savant. Describing such a person as having thier mental development retarded then is not being inconsiderate, but rather more correct than calling them learning disabled.

Here is my attempt at a 'proper' reply. Our problem based learning lessons, consited of being given a module guide and a few reading recomendations, and then being left to it.

Except for when I was being criticised for using the term mental retardation in a quote!! It is not my fault, I didn't write it, It was in an American book, and I think that is still an acceptable term in America. ( I am not sure, but it is still used in all my US books, I noticed the thread on here was called Learning Disabilities though)

I am just moaning about this module, And I am sure I'll look back and say what a character builing experience but at the moment I want to scream, I have just checked 6 books out of the education section of the libary, as I have to write about the effects of a learning disability on education, and the support available, but most of the books out there are on a learning difficulty, !!!!!!

I am sorry, here was me thinking I would like to be a nurse:) where on earth did I get that idea from?

I have got to go, wash some dye out of my hair, scary I have had to resort to dying my hair,as after last semester I have a streak of grey hair, like rouge in the x-men!
