Doctor to RN

My friend was a doctor before in China. She is now wanting to become an American R.N. What would she have to do or what kind of information would she have to provide to take the NCLEX?

Being a Doctor and a Nurse are two different things. Being a doctor doesn't automatically qualify one to sit for the NCLEX exam. He/she has to finish a duly recognized Nursing Program before she could sit for the NCLEX exams. The Board of Nursing determines whether or not someone is eligible to take the test.

Why does she want to be a nurse? It would seem that, as a doctor, she would fit better in a PA or even a med school program.

I know several foreign medical graduates who became US RN's. I understand that there is an accelerated program for MD-to-RN in Russia which is accepted by most states. I'm not sure if your friend would be willing to take such drastic measures. But yes, completion of some sort of RN program would be required prior to taking the NCLEX for licensure.

Wow, that's a great turn around, wishing her the very best, as this would require her to go to an accredited RN school

she needs to attend nursing school and complete an approved program. until that is done, no state will give her permission to sit for the nclex exam. as stated above, the two fields are quite different.

and as was mentioned above, there is an excellent program in st. petersburg, that is accelerated and just one year in time. know quite a few physicians that have goen thru that program from all over the world, and it is also accepted by cgfns as well.
